PS- To those who would like to learn more about Toronto without ever leaving their couch, The Late, Late Show with Conan O'Brien will be airing from Toronto all of next week. Just be ready for all Canadian guests, including Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Micheal.J Fox and other famous Canadians.

The CN Tower is not the tallest "building" in the world.
It depends on how you define it.

I really liked this quote ...
"On April 27, 1996, I attached a 3 meter helium balloon to a 1000 meter string and succesfully topped out the whole spool. Now I realize that it was a fairly flimsy structure but make no bones about it, it was indeed a structure. It wasn't intended for humans to occupy it but then again neither is a TV-mast. Oh well, you can add this structure to your list with my permission. Documented proof is available if you need it.'

Must really bother you yanks that we canucks have something "bigger" than yours eh?
Not the tallest "free standing structure" knew that for awhile. But like the page said, what can it be compared to? Its far taller than any other "building" but it is'nt really a building. One thing is for sure, its definently in a class of its own.
Easy way to settle this though. Tallest structure is 2063ft right. The CN boys should just add a 248ft antenna to the top to shut everybody up.
BTW, Guiness Book of World Records 2003 officially lists the CN Tower as the worlds tallest "building"

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. At a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches), it is the World's Tallest Building, an important telecommunications hub, and the centre of tourism in Toronto.
Is the CN Tower the tallest building in the world?
Yes, it is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's Tallest Building. The Tower holds a number of other world records including World's Longest Metal Staircase and World's Highest Wine Cellar. In 1995, the CN Tower was classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

According to this site, it's a tower, not a building.
1. A tower differs from a building in that the latter is considered to be a structure that is designed for residential, business, or manufacturing purposes. Also, an essential characteristic of a building is that it has floors. The structures listed here are principally telecommunications towers, and while they may have observation decks or restaurants, they do not have floors going all the way up.

Regardless, the CN tower is taller than even the tallest building(s) (by definition), which are the Petronas towers in Malaysia.
