Agreed.

SORRY CHRIS
No problem at all. You were correct in a way because low oil levels cause the pressure to drop.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do. I think it's a little pre-mature for the tensioner to do that as well. Was your car dealer maintained? If it was they should have suggested that at least be inspected with the mileage you have.

Call up Acura Client Care and see if you can open a case and have them "goodwill" it.

So is 925 tsx "banned" or does his avatar just say that? And did his tsx really blow up?

He should be for letting his car get to the point it got. Did this guy ever check his oil?

I'm just wondering if it was a dealer trying to scare us in to using a dealer to service our vehicles. Because it sounds stupid and it's the only "TSX blowing up" story on the site.

my borther in laws 07 Si did this with no check engine light, still well within warranty, honda told him it was mis-use of the engine because he had a K&N intake (his absolute only mod on the whole dam car) and that it would be 8k to fix... he wrote honda corporate and needless to say, it was fixed for free and he even got his intake back...

word of advice, if the dealer wont help, A)get a second opinion and B) def write a letter to Hondas corporate office here stateside, you will see results.

anyway, bought my tsx from a local dealer, and for 450 more on the total price i get lifetime warranty on all engine and drivetrain parts as long as oil touches the parts...1 stipulation, no modification to the engine...

so im stuck with only modding suspension, interior, rollers and exterior...i can live with that...

i would say good luck but i think a "enjoy ur new ride" is better suited...

> 13 TOUSAND FRIGGIN DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.

NO NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A NEW ONE.

Find a good machine shop that can rebuild the engine to original specs. Should cost no more that half that amount; even with new pistons, rings, valves and oil pump. The other option is to find a relatively low mileage engine from a car that has been totaled.

But, if you are looking for an excuse to buy a new car; then these suggestions are of no value. Perhaps the dealer is giving you a high quote because they would rather sell you a new car, take your car in on trade, repair it, and then sell it also. That way, then make money coming and going.

why would you blame the entire company for one isolated event like this? thats just ridiculous. He must have done something to the car, maybe driving it aggressively or modding it a lot. I have an 04 TSX with 85K and it runs like brand new.

A rebuilt or 2nd hand TSX motor with labor for install should not cause more than $4k at any non-dealership repair shop.

Go to his profile and search for the "Threads started". In Oct., 2007, he had a 2008 TSX (see the "handling" thread). Now, he has a TSX that "blew up" (I hope the explosion wasn't too loud). Is it the same car? Did he put 100,000 miles on a car in about 2 years and 4 months? That's a round-trip across the United States every 6 weeks. I know one thing based upon the threads that he started -- I wouldn't buy a used car from him.

However, he has made 858 total posts.

JimHolloman:

Nice investigative work. You don't post nearly enough. But who the hell am I to critizize? I am barely above you in posts.

There has actually been a post in the past of a TSX blowing up although thread was not labeled as such. Although it was not a major explosion, I call it an explosion nonethess. In that situation, a spark plug blew thru the engine cover and hit the hood. Scary stuff.

Check the thread below:

With up to 190 lbs. of pressure behind it, a spark plug that escapes can have a lot of velocity and do a lot of damage. I have seen engines where a piston rod came through a cast iron cylinder block. But, the real explosions occur at the drag strip.

Most everyone reading this forum is too young to remember when oil filters were detached from the engines and connected with rubber hoses -- hoses made of nothing more than rubber and cotton (like tires at the time). So, in addition to engines that would throw a rod, there were also plenty of engine fires and windshields covered with hot oil -- visibility would suddenly drop to zero and the wipers did nothing to improve it. Fortunately, it is very rare to see a car on fire today -- and it is as likely to be because of a leak in the gas tank, or lines, as with the engine.
