They're nice looking cars --- my cousin owns one... but man, those things are pieces of crap. Actually, I'd say that the vast majority of the MB line is crap outside of the super high priced whips. I test drove the C320 Kompressor sedan when shopping for the TSX. It was like driving a boat, and the rear wheel drive wasn't as fun to drive as I hoped (vs the 3-series). On the inside, I had to search for the controls to everything; nothing seemed to be in the place that it should, and the center panel seemed so cluttered.
From a reliability standpoint, my parents have owned 2 (500SEL and ML350), and there were always countless problems, particularly the electrical. I remember one winter, the driver's side window switch stopped working. My parents kept their cars in the garage, but for about a week, everyday my dad went to work, he had to drive with the window fully down when the temp outside was around 15F until the part came in.
I'm not saying the TSX is a perfect car, but I believe MB's are severely overpriced for the level of quality and performance you'd expect. Unless you're looking strictly for some name recognition, I'd pass... if you're going to go into a used German vehicle, at least get something that's at least FUN to drive.

MB in general, like many owners say, lease them, never buy them.
especially when the MBs are towards the end of warranty, don't see a point buying it.
i know every vehicle is different (my parents ML350 never had a problem), but in general most likely your 70,000K tsx will give you less problem than MB C240.
I don't know because you didn't specify enough, but are you trading partially because you are interested in C class?
then i would suggest looking at C230, slightly downpowered, but more sporty than what ppl call "granny's C240."

I wouldn't trade in the TSX. It's gonna last you a lot longer than any Mercedes will...

another car that i considered before purchasing my TSX was the MBZ C230 Kompressor. my aunt had a c class and had so many electrical problems that it steered me away from those mercedes. i personally would take a BMW over a Mercedes. i have never regretted getting the TSX vs. the other competition.

The C-class is probably the grandma of all the entry level luxury cars. It's a chick car and underpowered and overpriced. If you want German, go for BMW or Audi. Leave MB alone for that category.

Well as someone who owns a pos C230 Kompressor and my wife a TSX, it's obvious those talking have not spent much time in the MB. It is a nice car. Smooth power, no rattles, solid over bumps, great saftey ( 8 airbags), etc. I don't know if it is better or worse than a TSX, just different. By the way, my car has 70,000 miles with no problems, The TSX has had two recalls, bad rotors, windshield rattle, and a broken drivers power window. My wife would still buy another one. It's a nice car, but not perfect.
Also, saying the C class is like a civic is ridiculous (even though it is true). If you mean it is the cheapest in the line then yes it's a civic. I guess that makes the TSX an Acura civic, BMW 3 series a civic, Infinity G35 a civic, Lexus 250 a civic, you get my point. Every make has a cheapest. In Europe the C class is not the cheapest. It's all realtive.
I prefer driving the C230, but I do enjoy driving the TSX also.

I can understand your feelings about the space. It is tight. I am pretty thin so it doesn't bother me. I remember when the TSX was just out, many people were complaining that it was cramp compared to the Accord. The grass is always greener

My sis have '06 C230 sport and I have the '04 TSX. The only thing that the C230 has over the TSX is the quality of the paint. TSX handles better, better steering feel and throttle response. For a 6 cylinder engine car, the C230 is anemic. The interior amenities and layout of the TSX is way better than that of the C230...

have you ever seen the inside layout of a MB? No matter what series you choose, they are all so lacking of that "wow this is hot" feel inside. The layout is just so boring and kinda ugly, like BMW. I guess its a German thing.

Of all the entry level lux cars, the C-class and probably the swedish cars get the least amount of comparisons here....
regarding this comparison, the Accord Type-S was compared to a C-class in some european car publication (top gear or Car), and the Accord came out on top....This was probably when the Accord came out in 2003 or something.

I picked an '06 TSX over the C-Class Benz. Not only did I save thousands-- Let me say it again-- THOUSANDS of dollars, Everything I wanted but had to pay extra for on the C-Class was STANDARD on the TSX, except for the Navi.
After adding up all the stuff I wanted on the Benz that was standard on the '06 TSX, I would have had to pay around $60,000 for the Benz. I saved $32,000 by getting the TSX, and am still very pleased with it.
