trade an Audi A4 3.0?
I've got an 02 A4 3.0 (quattro 6 seed w/sport) that's been giving me service trouble. I'm almost out of warranty and considering the tsx. Any former Audi owners here with words of wisdom?
I'm looking at a tsx at w/nav. I drove the is300 and think the tsx outhandles it all day long. I love my Audi, but don't want to spend my life @ the dealer.

I'm sure you'll be able to find answers to all your questions here. I won't ramble on about the A4 because I haven't owned one but I did have a VW and I can tell you that I'm glad I made the switch. The VW family needs a serious quality overhaul which is reason enough to love the Acura.

I think you should consider looking at the Tl first . I like my TSX but it lacks in the power department but the handling is excelent.Im thinking about turning in the Tsx for a Tl just my opinion. Its your choice in the end.

Having owned 2 Audis, I agree that being in the shop is a problem...I'm actually about to purchase a TSX, leaving a 96 A6 (the other Audi is an 01 A8)...one of the big factors is maintenance, I want to keep it 10 yrs, and not have it in the shop...Hopefully history will stand true w/my Acura. Anyways, I love Audi, I think they make some of the best cars on the road, but for price, amenities, and durability, Acura does beat them.
Hope this helps,
steven

You'll probably miss the torque. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't test drive the TL and TSX back-to-back and decide for yourself. I prefer the TSX over the TL, but, then, I've never owned a car with a 6cyl....

Thanks for all the great advice and the warm welcome!
I share the V6/I4 concern as well. I think that the tsx has a sportier feel to it. The handling reminds me of my Audi - which seems to be my favorite part of owning a car at the moment.
My concern with the TL is understeer. I think that if it were awd or rwd I would be a bit more intrigued. There's only so much work those front wheels can take on. For this reason I think that the TSX is actually a safer vehicle than the TL.
I admit that I will miss my Audi interior and the V6 power, but think that I'll enjoy the nav and embrace the i4 every time I buy gas.
I've got a dealer searching for satin silver tsx with nav. If they can get one in the next week or so I'll probably be purchasing it. I'll keep you posted. Again, thanks for the words of wisdom.

What a perfect place to submit my first post.
I have a 98.5 A4 2.8 quattro (bought new) with 100k miles and going strong. I too am considering a TSX as a possible replacement.
To comment on the A4, maintanence is the key. Key being, its expensive after the warranty and free maintanence period. No matter what dealer or shop you bring it in, its like 3x more expensive for everything. (ie $75 oil changes). I have this annoying oil drip that started 10k ago and nobody can solve it. According to Audi forums, tons of people reported the same thing.
Thats why I'm an considering the TSX as my next car. I want the percieved Honda quality...but more importantly, the less expensive maintanence shops/dealers charge for a Honda.
Just to note, I love European cars as I am also considering the Saab 9-3 Aero, newer A4, or even the new Volvo S40. But I fear the same thing (more $$) will happen after warranty ends.
Regardless, I think the TSX is awesome outright. I'm just waiting/wishing/hoping for a PWP w/ black interior in the US to make me pull the trigger.

Car and Driver reported 0-60 7.2 0-100 19.0 ss 1/4 15.6@91mph for the TSX and 0-60 7.5 0-100 20.2 and ss 1/4 15.8@89mph for the A4 3.0 Quattro, both 6-speed manuals. So even if the A4 has 20 more horses than the TSX, they don't seem to make their way out of the frictional losses of the AWD system.
I've been driving Eurocars for over 20 years and the concept of a car that doesn't break very often and that the local independent garage can service and repair is very appealing. In fact, the first TSX service that isn't a 10-minute "piece of cake" shows up at 110,000 miles! I kinda like the "character" of a Eurocar but I'm sure I won't miss the repairs.

Audi dealer offered me $13K for a 2000 A6 Avant Quattro loaded (paid $42K) on a trade-in for a new A4. The loss in value is absurd. The A6 was the last Audi my family ever had. As soon as I sell it, we'll probably get a TL or RX330.

Former Audi owner
I owned two Audi's prior to the TSX. Most recent an '02 A4 1.8T Quattro and a TT Quattro before that. I was thinking I was going to buy a new A4 but wanted to drive some of the other cars in that price range. I didn't see or drive anything that caught my attention until I drove the TSX. Compared to the A4 I think it has more seating room, a larger trunk, more power, is appointed much nicer and comes with several options that are add ons from Audi and the TSX is quiet. Now for the plus side of Audi, both I owned were flawless no problems at all. The bose hifi is superior but is an add on. Quattro, what can I say( I live in Minn.) but it again is an add on. I drive about 35K a year so I change cars more than the average person and want something that handles on the road. So far (8,000 miles) the TSX is a great bargin in all respects for less money. I can't wait to see what Acura does to future models.

I thought about the 05 RL a bit, but I needed to get rid of the Audi (service problems - almost out of warranty). I also like the idea of saving some money by purchasing the TSX. It's such a great car, I feel like I'm cheating it by saying that I saved money. My thought is that in 2-3 years I'll probably end up purchasing an RL, but that of course depends on the competition in a few years.
