Yah we got the same problem here in Edmonton. I had the front and rears tinted on my old ride but I haven't gotten around to doing the TSX yet. Normally they only give out the tinting tickets when they pull you over for something else (most of the time, unless you get a harda$$)

I think cars look weird w/o front and rear tint. I'm probably going to do 20 rear and 35 front

weird...I was just going to mention this. I'm about to get tints on my car. Probably going 35% on sides and 20% on rear, or just 35% all around. In NY, the law technically states that tints must let 70% of light pass through them. I'm not really worrying about them because I don't hear of that many people getting tickets for tint that isn't rediculously dark.

Depends where. I've been told that the "meter maids" in NYC have been getting aggressive about stuff like this: tints, missing front plates, etc. Sounds a lot like here in LA. You'll almost never get stopped for this stuff because the cops really don't care, but if you park it in public, you can get nailed hard.

Cousin in Manhattan just got a TL, and even though he generally parks in a garage, he decided against a front tint because of some of the things he's heard from others.

I suppose that things vary from place to place, as they do out here.

about a month ago i got pulled over because of my tint... legal tint here in Virginia is 50% for the front and 35% rest... mine (according to the installer) is 20% all around. The police officer used a tint meter, which tells the percentage of the tint... when he used the device on my window, it showed 18%!! heheheh choices was to go to court or pay a $80 fine... well there goes my 80 bucks!!!

Whats the limit where you are for tint? I think it'd look a little odd.

If you have something illegal on your car accept the fact that you run the chance of getting a ticket. If I get a ticket for my tints I'll accept it and pay it. It's my risk so there's no reason to blame it on the cop.

Why would you wanna tint the fronts anyway? It would be very dangerous at night since it's a lot more difficult to see.

When I got tints, I already accepted the fact that I was going to dish out $50~100 dollars a year from tickets, which I don't mind, but would like to avoid as much as possible.

you can't have tints in front period in Vancouver. Do you think they could tell If I did 50%?
When i go to work i pass by so many cops and this time i go to school some prick pulls me over and he said himself nothing was wrong with the driving

Same is true in California, but generally you can get by with 50%, which is what I've done on the fronts before.

By your logic, if you're driving drunk in the middle of the night with nobody else around, nobody should bother you.

Works fine until you find yourself a mile away where there are people around and you kill one of them.

Want to drive however you like? Take it off the public roads that my tax dollars pay for.

Tint laws in most states have very little to do with your ability to see out at night, and everything to do with the cop's ability to see in and know whether you're reaching for a gun if he pulls you over.

So does anyone think a contrast from 35% in the back and none in the front too much? And will it look odd?

I had this on my old Audi wagon and it looked fine. Many SUVs do the exact same thing. however, I think it looks less good on a sedan like the TSX.

I'm leaning to 50% fronts, 35% everywhere else. I can probably get away with that around here, as i've had 50% before with no problems.

Like I said, the cops in California really don't seem to do much about this. But don't park your car on the street in the City, because the parking enforcement people will nail you in under 10 minutes...

damn that sucks. I'd probably try some kind of light tint up front anyway. Then again I'm willing to run the risk seeing as the limit here is 35 and I'm at 15.

It comes down to if you're willing to pay a ticket or not.

Depends where you are.

In California, a "fix it" ticket requires that you correct the violation (remove the tint) as well as pay a fine. Not all that big a deal if it's something like a bad light bulb, or even a missing front plate. Correct it, have it inspected, and maybe remove the plate again 5 minutes later.

Not easy to put tints on and off to satisfy one of those tickets...

what happens in Vancouver is if you get so many of those tickets they add points and your insurance rates go up which is a bitch

Fortunately, here it's not considered a moving violation, just a vehicle code infraction. The citation is actually issued to the car, not the driver. If the problem isn't corrected, the car's registration is eventually suspended and you could be stopped for driving a vehicle with no current registration.

But just having a "fix it" won't hit your personal driving record.

I did mine 20% all the way around. Look light during the day due to the parchment interior at night it nice and black just the way I like it.

If you can't see out the window someone else will be involved sooner or later. Thats why its illegal to have tints so dark that you can't see. Its to PREVENT accidents. After someone else is involved its too late.

Well....

35 allows 35% of the light through.

50 allows 50% of the light through.

Going from 35 to 50 will increase the amount of light coming in by about 42%.

The word from my tint shop is that on a light interior, a 50% tint will mostly not be particularly obvious during the day. A 35% will be noticable, but less so. On dark interiors, even relatively minor tints are very obvious.

He said that even in LA this year (they've been really clamping down), he has had no cars come back with 50% tints, but several 35% or darker have come in with "fix it" tickets, mostly those were dark cars with dark interiors.

All tints are see-through. If you can't see through them, the're just opaque black film, not a tint.

50% is not clear, if that's what you mean. It cuts about 50% of the light. 35% tint cuts about 65% of the light (allows 35% through). 20% tint cuts about 80% of the light (allows 20% through).

A 50% tint is pretty much the same as a 2X Neutral Density filter for a camera. Darkens things by one f/stop.
