Question ? to those of you w/ Navi

Is there some sort of cover that you guys put over your Navi screen its parked outside? The Navi is huge and its in plain sight.

I was thinking someone must know something like this. Thanks!

Why would you want to? The screen itself, in additon to being very difficult to remove (it is molded in the dashboard, it is not like a radio you can just pull out) is probably not all that valuable. The actual DVD system is mounted in the trunk.

In fact, I'd be suprised if these cars were targetted for that sort fo thing very often. The CD player is not going to fit in the dash of any other vehicle and it is useless without the NAV. The screen itself might have some street value but it will be limited value because it is a very specialized item.

If I was a theif, I'd go find myself a car without an alarm system that had a nice radio in it. Alternatively, I might break into a car or two to get at the airbags (which do have street value). I just don't see the NAV as being a likely target of theft.

Naptown reporting....

I haven't really worried about that.

The only thing I worry about is some inconsiderate person parking next to me and denting/scratching the paint.

It's not enough of a worry for me to park a mile away from everyone, but I do look and see what other cars are around me.

Naptown out.

I typically try to stay away from minivans because minivans typically are signs that there are kids on board because usually soccermoms drive those. Kids sometimes dont pay attention and just widely swing open the door.

Minivans typically have sliding rear doors so not as much problem there as you might think. I watch out for coupes as those 2-doors are often quite wide when opening. Of course I've got dents from the parking lot and my wife says "Why'd you park there?" as if it was my fault.

Hmm... you do have a point there... Not sure why i said that. But i typically do stay away from cars that are parked really crooked (spelling?) because those are usually the people who have trouble driving in tight spaces and probably will clip you on the way out. Plus one end of their car is really close to you already... i dont know... i just dont feel comfortable. I typically try to stay close to the "nicer cars" with no scratches or dings on them... those people that drive those will most likely be more careful of hitting other people's cars.

I just put a obviously dirty pair of boxers over the nav and so far no one touches it. (not even my passengers ) heh.. Seriously, if the nav unit was ever stolen it would be useless since you need a code to re-activitate it. Not sure how much they could gut the individual parts to make it usuable. Probably not worth the trouble.

Thanks for thr replys. What about the screen itself?
Would heat and constant sunlight affect the screen over time?

I don't think so. I had a Nav in my 01 CL-S and it never had a problem.
