That seller offers 2 different styles of switchblades:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05...item53decb8045

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

Which one did he send to you?

Has anyone tried this Acura TL switchblade?

http://www.remotesandkeys.com/Produc...ductCode=6308A

Advertised at $72 on sale and it has the memory feature, although it is not milled. Is that something a locksmith can do along with the cutting & programing?

Here's a link to another Acura vendor selling the TL switchblade for $56.

http://www.parts.com/shoppingcart/in...al=index%2Ecfm

If I can find a local locksmith with the abilty to mill the key as well as do the cutting & programing that would seem to be the cheapest way to get OEM quality + memory...

Did you receive yours yet, extracrunchie? If so can you take a couple of close-ups of the key?

Locksmith can cut and program, but can't mill. You need a machine shop for that. The blade width, thickness and the grooves have to be exact or the key won't work. A key cutting machine counts on all that already being correct and just cuts the little ridges in the sides of the key.

Thanks litesout, that's what I'm finding out from the local locksmiths... I guess that's why heeltoe can charge $60 for the milling.

Yeah, the milling isn't cheap. They've been sold by a few people for around what he's charging. All of them have said that they're not making any money on them, just doing them to help the community.

Looks like the eBay switchblade might be the better option for me as I can't really see forking out ~$200 when I already have 3 perfectly-good working keys...

I'm just curious how the quality compares this...

Well, I took the plunge and ordered from Heeltoe. I did the whole 9 yards - ordered the switchblade, having it milled, cut, and programmed.

I'm hoping to get it sometime later this week - can't wait!

Does anyone know how hard it is to program the buttons on the switchblade fob? That's the only thing I have to do, otherwise, it will be totally plug n play.

Here are some directions that I found online:

Here are the programming instructions for the keys.

---------------------
This procedure clears the transmitter codes and creates new ones, so you must program all remotes at the same time, even if one or more is already working.

Enter the car, and close all doors.

Each of the following steps must be completed within five seconds of completing the previous step. If you take longer or make a mistake, start the entire procedure over again.

Insert the key into the ignition, and hold one remote in your left hand. Whenever the instructions say to press the LOCK button, you should press the lock button on the remote for about a second and then release it.

Perform each of the following three steps in order, then repeat all three steps two more times, for a total of three times each:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, marked II.
2. Press the LOCK button.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position, marked I.

Do this three times!

Next, turn the ignition switch to the ON position (II) for a fourth time.

Press the LOCK button again. The door locks should now make a cycling sound, indicating that the system has entered Programming Mode.

Press the LOCK button one more time to program this remote. If you have other remotes to program, press the LOCK button on each one in turn. "In the case of the Acura key, program it second and then QUIT" The door locks should make the cycling sound after you press LOCK on each remote programmed. You must do this within ten seconds of each other.

Turn the ignition off and remove the key. The remotes are now programmed and may be tested.

If you've got a trunk/hatch release button, hold the button for this function for a few seconds to test it on the keys you programmed.

Edit: You'll have to clear any memory settings previously entered before you begin the above proceedure or it will not work.

Been thinking about the Ebay unit. The panic button looks to protrude from the case, making it easy to set off if you wasn't careful. Is it just the picture angle?

Thanks for posting those extracrunchie....

Since you have an '07 I wonder if you can answer a question regarding the memory function?

When you use the new no-memory remote to unlock the doors how does the MID react?

Specifically does it retain your previous personal settings you entered for memory 1 or 2 ~ similar to what happens when you use your key to unlock the door? Or does this remote change those settings when you use it to open the door?

TIA,
SRS

Basically none of the memory seats work, and theres no reaction from the MID what so ever, works fine.......

No my previous settings were not retained, everything is manual now, which is fine cuz im the sole driver......but the dealership charged me 85 bucks CAD, those MOFO's

So any preferences you had are lost, eh? Too bad, as I'm not concerned about the seat positions, but the custom settings for alarm, locks, lights, wipers etc. are important to me... :thumbsdow

Thanks again for all of your help...

Yes, like I prefer to unlock all of the doors and trunk by pressing the remote button once instead of having to hit it twice. Setting the security relock to 60 seconds instead of 30 allows me time to load the trunk, so these sorts of custom settings that can be programmed into the MID for each memory are features that I wouldn't want to loose.

If I use my key to enter the car, the MID greeting is "WELCOME" instead of "WELCOME DRIVER 1," but all of the other settings remain set at memory 1, the last remote I used to enter the car. Does your new switchblade key also retain those personal preferences, or do those MID functions revert to their default settings?

Thanks!

k for a quick look, when i unlock and dont open the door, after a certain time it locks again, and same for headlights it turns off if i forget to turn it off after locking.............

But i have to check if i made a setting would it be saved..........but ill confirm that on the weekend.
