Stupid Glovebox Question: Damper??

I had some stereo work done to my car today (XM and iPod, post coming in A/V Forum later), and they installed a switch in the glovebox. I open the door to access it, and the glovebox flops open. I could swear it used to have motion that seemed to be hydraulically damped, and it would smoothly and slowly open. Am I imagining this? Could they have installed some stuff on the back of the glovebox that overpowers the damper? Is it likely they just forgot to hook it back up, and is there an easy way to do this? I am almost positive it used to be damped, and it's driving me crazy.

I thought I was the only person that would notice something as minute as this... So I checked things out for you...

Yes, on my 04 the glove box opens nice and smoothly, just as you described.

Go back to the shop and ask them to take a look at it. I always err on the side they made an honest mistake, so don't go in pointing blame... just ask them to double check.

Just open your glovebox and look on the right side. You will see the damper hanging there. Just pull it down by hand and snap it into the glovebox. You can't miss where it goes. The audio shop just probably forgot to put it back.
