Thumbs down Stock RSX type-s stolen (dialup warning)

my friend lives in an apartment. one nite, he woke up and found his car gone. his rsx type s is fully stock. this is in riverside, california. the cops recovered the car somewhere in onterio after 3 or so days. the people who stole the car broke into the car via the driver's door. i think the people who stole the car actually drove the car away by somehow bypassing the ignition system. you can clearly see that the person who stole the car ripped off the bottom part of the steering column cover and doing something with the wires (dunno). they removed all the seats and the engine. does anyone know how this was done? has anyone seen this before? this has me worried about my car.

Sorry to hear it/see it.

I'm just as curious as you are to find out how they stole the car. But where there's a will, there's a way.

Exactly. No car is theft proof. Worst case...they pull up in a flatbed.

Is'nt there an easier way to get into the car besides destroying the lock/handle? I'd imagine that took more time than simply breaking the window or jimmying would have?

Are RSX's Jimmy proof?

Wow! and I thought it was only possible to steal cars with imobilizers by towing them.

I hope your friend gets a brand new RSX back.

Clearly these theives needed specific parts and didn't bother with the rest. The airbags and the radio were completely untouched. Looks like these were some Acura factory-certified theives.

You're probably not far off. It's not like just any thug can remove an engine or bypass an imobilizer. These guys probably work for an acura dealership or some sort of repair shop.

My gf had her front passenger airbag stolen out of her 2000 Accord. I kid you not... the airbag looked professionally uninstalled. I'm 100% certain that whoever uninstalled her airbag had removed LOTS of them... most likely at his place of employment.

No offense to you guys, but it reads like a few of u guys never thought about your car getting stolen.

Like Tony Fresh I had a ITR, but unlike him mine wasnt stolen. I sold mine because I was sick and tired of having to worry about it every time I drove it. I was so scared that someone was going to steal, vandalize, or mess w/ my car I hardly drove it. Thats not a fun way to own a car.

The immobilizer in our cars dont mean shit. Any car can be stolen, but w/ the TSX im not scared at all.

Sad but true. I think it was Dateline that lodged a hidden camera in a body shop and it showed the staff putting more damage on an already damaged car so they could make more money. They took one of those big mallots and just beat the crap out of the car. Makes you sick to your stomach to even trust a place of business with your car with this in the back of your mind.

same here. Althought mines not a Type R it's still an integra. Honestly that didn't look too bad from what I've seen. I was shocked how much was left.

Sorry about your friends car.

I'm surprised they didn't take the entire engine block.

Then again, they probably didn't think an used engine was worth that much.

Still really sucks though. I mean, your friend probably spent a lot of money getting the car, and it's just been stripped away, literally, from him.

I hope the thieves make some stupid mistake, like selling marked parts, and get caught.

Were the wheels still on it? I figure that's the easiest thing to pawn. They must have spent quite some time taking that interior apart. The seats must be the least trackable things in the car.
Was the car actually driven away or they just broke the steering column to free the steering wheel and pulled it with some other car?
You'll probably find the interior (and perhaps some of the other parts) in some riced out Civic.
