stealership service vs my driveway
Its time for the 60k service on my 04 MT
I change the MTF every year, coolant/2yrs, oil/filter 3k, K&N cleaned each year, cabin filter each year for basic maintenance...
so my question is...is their "inspection" any better than my visual eye for anything majorly wrong? Do they do any diagnostics or other "hidden" type work that I would not be performing?
I did notice my drive belt is starting to leave debris on the hood lining and the tensioner is nearing the edge, but thats a completely seperate service, right?
...so, at 380, is there any reason to get the 60k service done via Acura?

well, let's see...
gotta rotate the tires (should be done every 10k anyway).
you can probably check the parking break line tension on your own.
you can probably inspect all the visual stuff yourself as well.
just need to get the car up so you can get fully under it to closely
inspect the fuel lines, exhaust, brake lines, etc.
so no, no reason I can see besides that drive belt thing for you to bring it in.
60,000 mi/96,000 km/3 yrs Scheduled Maintenance
Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires (follow pattern on page 276 of your owner's manual).
Replace engine oil filter.
Inspect front and rear brakes.
Check parking brake adjustment.
Inspect tie-rod ends, steering gearbox and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect drive shaft boots.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Inspect all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
See information on maintenance and emissions warranty, last column, page 233 in your owner's manual.
Inspect drive belt.
Replace air cleaner element.
Replace dust and pollen filter.

boost owns
I'm at 51k and will be doing my 60k myself, whenever I get there. I keep all fluids in good order, and have replaced the bulk of my car's "wear and tear" parts with aftermarket parts... there's not a whole hell of a lot that is going to need to be done in the near future. The only thing I'm on the lookout for is the AC failure (04).

If I have never taken my car in to get serviced at the dealership and my 4year 50K is about to expire would it be advisable to do so now? My father (40 year mechanic) and I handle the basics but I wonder about all of the other stuff that they (the dealerships) say should be done. Basically all of the stuff in MMsTsx post under check brakes (with the exception of the fluid). Do I want to pay them just to look?
