Which Spark Plugs to use?
Which Spark Plugs to use?
Hey guys,
My 2004 TSX with 97k miles needs a new set of plugs (it's close enough to the 105k interval change).
Which plugs should I use? Champion, NGK, or Denso? There is a considerable cost difference between Champion units vs others. Are Champions recommended on these engines or should I stick with the Japanese plugs?
Thanks!

100% definitely the NGK Iridium's. They are the OEM plug and are excellent quality (among the best plugs you can buy). Most Honda's I've owned or maintained run best on the actual OEM plug, and all of those are NGK's. Do not run Champion plugs, both times I used them, they were terrible and were promptly swapped out for OEM's.
Just remember, you do NOT need to use anti-seize with NEW NGK plugs -- they have a shell coating on the threads that will act as a great anti-seize material. However, once you remove them once, you must use anti-seize when putting them back in as the "shell" is used and now rendered ineffective.
Follow the proper torquing procedure, usually listed on each individual box for each plug. IIRC, it's finger-tight (no ratchet just the extension and socket). Then 1/2 to 3/4 turn more with the ratchet. I recall doing 2/3 just to be in the middle. That's it!
