So, I rented a G35 last week and...

...I still prefer my TSX.

The wife and I were in Vegas for a week and I had reserved a full sized vehicle (thru Hotwire for $10.95 a day!). We were supposed to land at 4pm but our flight kept getting pushed back and didn't get there until 12:30. It was 1:15am by the time we got our luggage and I got to Hertz to pick up my car. When the guy asked me why I was so late I told him what happened. He said they didn't have any full sized vehicles left because it was so late and asked, "Do you like Infiniti?" I said, "Sure!" So he offered me the 2008 G35 sedan (with only 300 miles on the clock!) as a complimentary upgrade. Of course I jumped all over it.

Well, the first thing I noticed was how cramped I felt. I know it's supposed to be a sports sedan, but I expected a little more room, especially by the dead pedal, which I felt was really uncomfortable. The seats, too, were nothing to write home to mom about. They felt hard and unsupportive in the right areas. Maybe I'm not built right for a G35 (I'm 5'10" and 220 lbs), but it just didn't feel right (my 6'0" friend that drove it had the same complaints). Also, the throttle felt waaaay too artificial and didn't respond in a timely manner.

The engine was great and had plenty of power on demand, but it sometimes felt jerky due to the damn throttle. I was also blinded by the desert sun reflecting off all the brushed aluminum in the cabin. It looked great, but I guess it just wasn't functional. The sun's rays kept coming up beneath my sunglasses, making me tilt my head downward into an uncomfortable position.

All in all, I'd say the G35 is nothing but an engine. It's definitely not worth the price. I'd much rather have the TSX, which has enough power for me 95% of the time, instead of having to deal with uncomfortable seats, solar glare, and a jerky throttle. I had 9 days to get used to the G35, and I never felt like it was the car for me.

That's interesting...I always thought the G35 would have been a step up. Thanks for the impressions -

yea but we can't argue so much about not being roomy really.... G35s...Lexus IS...3 series...C class...all have small interior space...for being rear wheel drive.
i remember CND magazine once mentioned that the civic sedan has bigger interior space than that of the new MB C class sedan.
My sister drives the IS250 AWD, very comfortable car to travel with, but cannot stand the small interior space both front and back.

No, we flew in on a non-stop flight from Washington DC (Dulles airport). We were delayed because the flight that was coming to DC so we could fly to Vegas kept getting delayed. We were stuck at the airport and our poor dog, who flew with us, was locked up in her crate God knows where! We felt so bad for her, too. She spent almost 11 hours trapped in her travel crate.

I sat in a new g35 recently and wasn't too impressed with the interior. I thought it would be better too.

i found the drivers seating position way too high, at its lowest setting. the rear head room sucked balls. i'm 5'10", and i was ducking while sitting at the window seats.

other than that, i thought the 6mt drove very nice.

would i trade my car for it? probably, if i can get over the high drivers seating position.
