Unhappy So Heres my Rattle Story, and More.....

Ok so Ive got a case of the rattles, as I know most do on this forum. I live in South Florida and have spoken to my service guy about the problem (knowing in the back of my head that hes gonna know jack shyt about this, and that im probably going to learn more here than with him), he tells me this is the first the dealership has heard of this. Service manager, who seems to be a nice guy told me that probably the reason he hasnt heard of this is that im probably the only one who listens to my Bass high.

For the record I listen to music with the bass level at 3 and treble at 3. My music selection varies, but i usually dont listen to rap like most 25 year olds who live by me, that would usually causes the whole car to shake. I even get the rattles when listening to talk radio.

Anyways.....i decide to leave the car overnight in hopes that they might be the miracle service crew and find a possible solution. Suffice to say, not to their fault, but they couldnt think of anything but to rescure the door panels even tighter. This did not work. ....They did however tell me that they would put fourth the money and buy me DynoMat from a local car stereo install place. I took it to the best that I know in south florida (Sound Advice, they specialize in BMW's) and no luck. Their opinion was that putting DynoMat would make the rattles worse. I know jack shyt when it comes to this, but the way the guy explained it the more it made sense.

I also find out If I decide to add a sub to the car, its going to make the rattles ALOT worse......(has anyone added a sub to their TSX yet???? and if so is this true????) So it looks like the rattles are here to stay, no new news....:'(

On a side note, im very pissed about this. When I purchased the TSX I speciafically asked to have the sunroof wind deflector removed. I was told, dont worry its free, I still said I dont want it. They left it on. When I got my car home i did my Anal retentive look over on the car. Make sure no small dinks or scrathes inside or out, if there was I would immediatly bring back. WELL......I take the wind deflector off to find a indentation around the outside of the roof. It looks like the paint had been wet and that someone put this deflector over wet paint, and then it dried to cause a ridge around the sunroof (im sure the paint was not wet, this is the only way to explain what it would look and feel like to you guys). So know I find out they will have to REPAINT my roof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL NO. They took 2000 off my trade in because I had my Audi door painted from a bad door dink, and ill be damned if im gonna have some dealership take another lump sum off my TSX when i trade it in.

Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem????? My family bought three cars from this dealership in a span of two weeks, and all had the wind deflector and the other two dont have it (i dont think)..........and Seth if your reading this, IM PISSED!!!!! Not your fault, but im PISSSED!!!!!!!!!

Had to vent......

i'm sorry to hear that man. that sucks that the dealership couldn't get rid of the rattles for you. As for me, i have found that all my rattles come from the doors and some rattles come from the rear deck.

I recently helped my friend install his new coax speakers on all his doors and his rear deck. In the process, we put dynamat on as much of the door and the door pannel and his rear deck as we could. He drives an older civic that had rattles up the ying-yang. But his rattles were also confined to the doors and the rear deck. After the instalation of dynamat, we had the speakers up all the way and the rattles from the doors and rear deck stoped. However, with the stero up so high, other places in the car started to rattle, but (the only part i care about) the doors and the rear deck weren't rattling anymore. I have no idea what the car audio guy said about dynamat not working. It worked for my friend's civic. You should try the dynamat, its not that hard to install at all. You can try it yourself:

http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/show...&threadid=1989

As for your sunroof visor being put on before the paint was dry, that sucks too. I had so much packaging tape crap all over my car. I thought i was scratching the clearcoat off when flakes were coming off. What looked like clear paint chips to me was just tape from packaging the car.

CLIFFNOTES : Helped friend install dynamat in his car, stopped door rattles, deck rattles. I am going to dynamat car when i install new speakers.

My opinion: If they don't want to fix your roof for free (i.e., fix it in some way that will not detract from the trade-in value one bit) you get Acura USA involved. The nonsense with the rattles is one thing, all new cars have issues like that. But, the roof stuff is just dumbass negligence and you don't have to take that.

Man, reading stuff like this just infuriates me. Nobody has a right to take your hard earned $ and treat your like that.

Can you please explain how dynomat would make it worse? I dont see how this is possible and I would suggest you give it a shot if its being payed for by the dealer.

You stay out of this. The Accord suffers the same problems by the way, and that is what the Honda dealership told me.

Yup, you got it. Dynamat=thin layer of foam-like substance.

Regarding the door rattles...

After my dealer couldn't fix the problem, I called a couple of audio specialists in my area. After describing the issue, one pretty much said that Dynamat would not solve the problem. Another felt pretty much the same way, but said there's a chance they could do something, either with Dynamat or other troubleshooting knowhow. In any case it was gonna cost a few hundred bucks.

That was right around the time we discovered the tap-down window method, which quiets the buzzing doors. But when I tap the window down a tick, I get a new noise, kind of a squeaky thud caused by the window pane rubbing/bumping against the door frame or whatever. And when I close the door, it makes a really ugly sound if the window is down just a tick. The problem got better for a month or so, but now it's as bad as ever, and starting to bug me again. This has nothing to do with music/bass in my case.

Still waiting to hear about someone finding a long-term solution to this one...

Thanks for the suggestions guys...I am planning on taking my car to another car audio installer down the street from Sound Advice, a place called Audio Advisors. After talking to a few other people I find that "these guys" are really the best in my town. I guess its all opinions. However, like I said I dont know much about dynomat, however the first guy told me that it would provide me with a cleaner and tighter bass, and seeing as he thought it was the level of the bass causing this, that the dynomat may do more harm then good, causing the rattles to now get louder since eliminating some of the other noises......I DUNNO!!!! Im so pissed right now, the rattles problem is something i know will be eventually fixed, but my PAINT JOB is pissing me off so bad. Its not huge, actually most people dont see it at first, but its becoming an eye sore for me, I refust to turn the lights on in my garage when i get into the car because it shines RIGHT ON IT!!!!

I emailed the corporate headquarters last night, so hopefully they can provide me with some help. I still love this car, Ive had two A4's, and an Integra and If I had to buy a new car today again, I would still buy the TSX. The positives in the car exceed the few negatives, however, these negatives can be eliminated and thats whats ticking me off.

The dealer owes you big time for that wind deflector. That is a factory defect which is covered under the warranty.
