So happy the car doesn't have a tire pressure monitor!

Hi

This is my first post and I will be picking up my 2004 Carbon TSX w nav next week and I can't wait. In researching I found the 2004 does not have tire pressure monitor and it made my heart sing with glee. Let me splain...I can just imagine the additional balance problems the shops are going to have when they mount new tires with this system as well as the additional expense now that you can't go to just any shop to get new tires. It's like HID lights...great idea until you need to replace one at $1500 a pop. I can see fine with my old Maxima's headlights and they cost all of $10 to replace.

Well be gentle with me as it's is my first foray into this froum

As far as I know, the TPMS in the RL does not require any special mounting equipment for the tires and only requires minimal adjustment to balance correctly.

And aside from the RL, no cars in the Acura line-up have TPMS as standard.

have you ever seen how many counter weights they need to balance the tire? I will take a pic of my RX-8 if you haven't.

Depends on the system. The RL system, which is the system Acura would most likely use on all of their cars if they were to offer a TPMS utilizes a tiny radio transmitter attached to the valvestem that transmits the data to a central unit for processing. The unit is very small and contributes minimally to the weight of the wheel.

I'd still like to see some pics of your RX-8 and hear the story behind switching to the TSX.

What's up with your age in the profile then?

I just assumed you'd replace the RX-8. Anyhow, enjoy the new ride.

Do any TSX's have a tire pressure monitor? Why bring up this point at all? I am a little confused. It's like saying "Man I am glad this car doesn't have a supercharger. Those things are a pain to maintain.

my point sygyzy is sometimes the newer features can be expensive to maintain

just wait till one of your HID lights burn out or get hit by a rock and then you may see my point of course mine won't break because I am putting a clear bra on as soon as I can.

Can I suggest we change your username? It causes yours posts to offset all the others because of its length.

And welcome to the site.

I thought the Canadien models have it in the TSX. My TSX has the dummy light in the dash, but of course it's not hooked up.

EDIT::: sorry, nevermind I was confusing the low wiper fluid light. Err... wish we had that too.

I know one person installed it... but it's a complicated thing.

Am I the only one who thinks the minimal chances of a hassle regarding HIDs or even TPMSs are insignificant in comparison to what they contribute?

Indeed, I see no hassle associated with an HID. Of course, I never had mine stolen...

The TPMS is not as bad as folks make it out to be. It will take a little getting used to, but its only been around for 6 months or so and its easy to "get along with" once you appreciate what it does. Yes you need a $400 activator/tester for the sensor's but once you have that and get familiar with how to put car's into "learn mode" its very simple and helpful to most helpless consumers.

In terms of it impacting balance, that's foolish, the valves are small, light and implemented very well.

A note to any TPMS users, do NOT lose you valve caps and make sure you get them serviced at a place that knows what they are doing. The valve cap and core that comes together must remain together you can not switch them around, it may effect the system. New TPMS valves are around $60(each), and you would need 4, however this will likely change as soon as the aftermarket gets its hands on them.
