Is Simoniz worth $399?

I posted recently that a giant bird dropping caused etching in the trunk area of my beloved NHB TSX after just a few hours (!). I went to my dealer today (to try to fix my rattles! Sigh...) and I told them about the bird dropping damage. They will try to buff it out for me. However, the service lady also told me about this Simoniz treatment. Apparently it is like giving a teflon surface to your car? They claim that it will protect your paint against lots of things, including bird droppings. There is also a 5 year guarantee. However, the treatment will cost $399!!! I wonder if anyone knows much about it? Is it worth it? Also, does it do anything to the micro-scratches and swirl marks that are already there?

It's a waste of money. Sounds like some kind of magic wax, there's not a product on the market, that I really know of that truly works like that.

Look at it this way... You are basically buying insurance.. sure the treatment helps some, but its not going to always prevent any kind of acid/chemical (bird poop etc) damage to your ride...

So lets say you get some really bad chemical damage on your hood.. its going to cost you quite a bit more then 399 to get the hood re-done.

If you look at it from the perepective that you are paying most of the money for the garuntee and not for the actual treatment, its not a horrible deal.

I'd spend a lot less money if I were you on a good quality wax and/or sealant. There are quite a few out there, klasse, wolfgang, zaino to name a few. Check out autopia.org for opinions on them and then try one that sounds like you want. Also check out the how-to articles, lots of help there too. There's nothing like doing a great detailing job on your car and stepping back to see it.
