Question Should I sell 94 Accord, get TSX with payment down or keept 94 Accord, buy TSX?

Hey, I have been thinking about selling my 94 Accord, put money down on TSX or keep 94 Accord and buy TSX. My accord has about 150,000 mileage, it is still good condition and running. It has Wings west W type body kits, Greddy SP exhaust system, DC sports header, AEM cold air intake, Carbon Fiber dash kits, Kenwood stereo system, 17 inch chrome wheels (5 spokes), Neuspeed strut bar and sport spring, shaved the molding on door, the trunk lip, body kits on front and rear bumper, powerstop brake rotor, AC 3D guage, Wings west mid spoiler with red led, etc. That car has no car payment, for the car insurance cost about $58.00 per month. I am thinking about selling this Accord about $10,000.00. If my accord sold to someone then I will put $ 8,000.00 down on new TSX and $2,000.00 for the 18 or 19 inch wheels/tires. So, car payment will be lowest on TSX. If I don't decide to sell my Accord then I have to figure it out with budget on New TSX, parts, etc. It would be nice if I have money and be able to afford two vehicles of Accord and TSX, hahaha. I feel like I want to buy new TSX than keeping Accord, because my Accord is kind of my old car and had for almost 5 years. What do you think or recommend? Thanks, George.

Expect your car insurance to go up with the TSX (get a quote from your current insurance company), and with an $8K downpayment you're looking at payments in the high $300's.

There are some really good spreadsheets at carbuyingtips.com that help you calculate your monthly car-ownership costs, based on different downpayment amounts and negotiated sale price of the car.

If you're sentimentally attached to your Accord because of all the mods you've made, well... whether you sell it is up to you alone, my friend.

You should evaluate whether owning/maintaining 2 cars is worth the higher cost of owning the TSX.

I've never poured time and effort into improving a car, but I've found that every time I've gotten a new one I forgot about its predecessor within 5 minutes. If you're worried about missing your old car, it's running well, and you've modded it... why don't you just keep it for now and wait awhile for a new one?

I also think you may be over optimistic if you expect to get $10,000 for that car, even with all the work you've put into it.

Agreed. edmunds.com lists 1994 Accords for $4k -- $7k. And mods don't usually increase a car's resale value by any significant amount.

hey buddy, give this one some serious thought.

I had the Ford Focus (I can hear the screams of horror coming from the forum already) and loved it its true! I had it for two years before buying my new Euro Accord 2.4 Type-S. Sure, I love the new car to bits and it'll probably be more reliable and certainly faster, but I still miss the good old focus. I don't mean to denigrate the TSX/Accords (i have one myself remember), but I honestly think that my bog standard Focus handled better than my current car. I miss it everyday of the week, but love my new car to bits and wouldn't get rid of it either. I recognise I'm moving on in he car world, but it hurt.

If you're attached to your accord as I was to my focus, tread carefully...
