If they are correct in saying that it is the size of a Civic Coupe and powered by a Camry 2.4L, that's a mean punch for that size. The 2.4L in Camry form makes 157hp and 162 ft-lbs of torque. Sounds like a mini-RSX almost if they can get the handling right.

Initially shows promise, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the final version.

Dug a lil' deeper and found this which some indicate will be this new Scion car...

http://www.vvti.net/newcar3.jpg

I know it's a photochop, and it seems to look way too much like the Camry, so I figure for the US Scion will be retooled to look a bit different.
Like Lung said, waiting and actually seeing will be the wise thing to do. Hopefully, this Scion tc looks nothing like the Toyota siblings.

Junkster, who thinks the Scion brand is too 'kiddy' for himself.

That picture doesn't say much on ScionLife. I wonder if this car will be shown at the NAIAS in January?

Thumbs up

Heres another pic that surfaced. Looks to me like its what the profile will indeed look like becuz as you can see the rear of both pics is identical. This should be a bad ass car. 157 horses 162lb/ft glass sliding roof all for under 20k.

It looks not weird enough for the Scion brand (I like it tho). Anybody else think the front end of the new Altezza (IS300) resembles an E46?

Supposedly, it'll be based on the JDM Toyota Avensis:

Guess we're getting the hatchback (in the middle)

Hey, it's a Merkur XR4Ti! :P My vote is for the mini-Camry pic. If they want this car to be the Scion volume leader, they'll have to go more conservative in the stylin' dept. This ccX sounds like it would go against Si/RSX.

2005 SCION tC
ON SALE: Now
BASE PRICE: $16,465
POWERTRAIN: 2.4-liter, 160-hp, 163-lb-ft I4; fwd, five-speed manual
CURB WEIGHT: 2905 pounds
0 TO 60 MPH: 8.0 seconds (est.)

The only reason I could see someone buying a base Celica or an base RSX over this thing would be for looks.

Toyota pretty much killed the base Celica with this car IMO.

Looks pretty good.

Is Scion independant automobile company? Or is it lower class division of Toyota?
Anyways tC doesn't look so bad.. But why does that car remind me of Saturn? :P

Scion is Toyota and are sold out of Toyota dealerships. Scion was created for the "Youth of America" and are only sold in the US right now. and not even every state yet, if I'm not mistaken?

There are a few dedicated scion dealers in Cali but most of the ones in the rest of the US will be sold out of Toyota dealers aka BMW/Mini Cooper etc...

The price is not bad for a sporty 8.0 sec lil coupe

Apparenty TRD will be offering a supercharger for it that should put it in the mid sixes...

here is a quote from a scion fansite

"Adding the TRD supercharger will bump the output to about 200Hp, but a smaller pulley will add even more boost. Upgrading the fuel system with injectors and a Supra fuel pump will insure that the engine never gets too thirsty for fuel. I believe that a few more bolt-ons will get this beast to around 250Hp which is plenty for daily driving."

another good link http://www.scionzone.com/html/featur...ows/naias2004/

"2005 Scion tC
Third Time's a tCharm

Scion unveiled the third product in its lineup: the Scion tC sport coupe. The three-door hatchback is the perfect complement to the boxy xB and contemporary xA vehicles that went on sale eight months ago.

In keeping with Scion's desire to appeal to those in the entry market, pricing is promised to be well under $20,000. The tC will make its appearance in showrooms in late June, the same time that the second phase of Scion's rollout will occur, meaning Scion will be available to those on the East Coast, Southeast, and gulf states. This second phase also means Scions will be in about 60 percent of Toyota dealerships by that date.

Scion expects the tC to add to its already impressive sales figures, 10,898 for the introductory year via 105 dealers in 2003, although Scion reps would not disclose production numbers for the tC as of this date.

The tC's design target was sophisticated styling matched with excellent versatility. It is a wide vehicle that sits low like a sport coupe should. Although it's a three-door hatch, the clean rear design makes it appear as if there's a trunk instead. The hatch incorporates an inside power release, as well as a release button on the standard keyless entry keyfob. The panorama glass moonroof is standard, as are the 17 x 7.0-inch split six-spoke alloy wheels and P215/45R17 tires. The wheelbase is 106.3 inches, with overall length at 174.0, making it 8 inches longer in wheebase than the xB and 13 inches longer than the xA. Interior specs weren't provided, but the increase in wheelbase should translate to ample leg room for front and back-seat occupants.

More features outside include wipers that sit low on the glass for improved visibility, narrow A-pillars for reduced front blind areas, turn signals incorporated into the sideview mirrors, and monochromatic trim. The tC's front end incorporates noticeable wheel arches and a mesh grille. Overall, the Scion is visually appealing, without any harsh body lines and tacky add-ons just for design's sake. If anything, it might be too conservative, but next to the xB, there may be no way to avoid it. Scion claims that 75 percent of Scion buyers are new to Toyota, with 50 percent being younger than 35 and 57 percent male. Perhaps the tC's leaning toward a more conservative style is designed to bring in a bit higher age audience who need to watch the dollars, but don.t necessarily want to be associated with a vehicle with too youthful a market.

Inside, the Scion comes standard with all the good stuff, including air conditioning, cruise control, a top-line Pioneer audio system, power windows, door locks, and mirrors and a center console with armrest. Things common to the Scion line include amber illumination on the IP, metal-tone trim, and unique interior materials such as on the tC's dash, which was inspired by the texture of Japanese paper. Many interior parts feature dampers to add a touch of quality and luxury, and there's also a cover for the audio system.

Versatility is proven in the tC via rear 60/40 split seats that seat three across, with headrests and shoulder belts for all. The rear seats will recline 45 degrees, and also can be adjusted into 10 different seat positions for ultimate comfort. Another degree of versatility is seen when both the front and rear passenger seats are folded flat; this allows the tC to carry items to 8.5 feet in length.

Under the hood is a version of the 2AZ-FE all-aluminum 2.4-liter inline four cylinder with Toyota's Variable Valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that cranks out 160 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 163 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, considerably more (52 hp/58 lb-ft) than its kissin' cousins. Fuel economy is a predicted combined 24 mpg. Just for fun, Scion will be offering a dealer-installed TRD-developed supercharger that will be available sometime after the tC introduction in June. This bumps power to 200 hp. The good news is you don't have to wait to buy the tC if you want the supercharger; it can be added later at the dealership.

The tC shares its platform with the European-based Toyota Avensis, and features a fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts in front and a double wishbone setup in the rear. Four-wheel-disc brakes with anti-lock also are standard on the tC. To shift, choose from either the five-speed manual tranny or the four-speed automatic. Because it shares with the Avensis, the tC should feel European in its ride and handling characteristics.

Although this is the last vehicle in the first phase of Scion, we were informed that there will be more products to come, none of which, of course, Scion execs were willing to talk about at the time. Stay tuned."

This car is most intriguing. Too small for what I want now, but definitely a decent looking little coupe. Of course, they shoulda kept it as a Toyota. It's not ugly enough to be a scion.

That 2900 lbs is bit heavy for the car. Most compact sedans and coupes are in the 2600lb range (Mazda 3 2700+, Germans are over 3000lbs). At least it looks a lot better than a Corola.

0-60 in 8 seconds...that's quite good for a 16K car. Toyota is aiming to kill with this one.

The only thing I don't like about it is the front end and it does seem to be on the the heavy side. Very interested to see the new civic.

I dunno. It looks a little weird to me. It's like someone took a Skyline grill and 5-Series headlights and made some Euro-Pacific... frankenstein... thing.
But yea, looks like the Celica killer, unless Toyota is planning a radical new Celica. If they are, I wouldn't know/care anyway, cuz Acura's flat out own

i like this scion tc too!

i looked on msn.com and clicked future cars, and it shows all the details about the tc. it even said that you could add on a dealer installed supercharger to boost the horsepower to 200hp.

since i can't afford the g35 coupe, this scion may be the way to go.

Nice mods! Should work well with the glass roof for a nice overall look. You should try to photoshop more of an overhead shot to emphasize the red/black contrast.

As stated by others on paper the Scion Tc puts a lot of pressure on the base RSX and I think the 4cyl Accord Coupe. This isn't too much smaller than the Accord and has a very similar engine and is a little lighter. The hatch design may sell it for those looking for more versatility.

Those really interested will have to keep in mind that Scion was real close to the bottom of the JD Powers Initial Quality Study for 2004. It might be owned and built by Toyota but they are all new cars and suffering from 1st year problems.

read an interesting article about the tc in autoweek today... factory options include a carbon fiber hood, 18 or 19in wheels, aem CAI, TRD supercharger, a sport exhaust system. I'd say toyota is nailing the head on the younger market, if this had been out when i was looking at cars I probably would've strongly considered buying one.

Scion tC has the body weight of the Honda Civic coupe, and has the torque power of our Acura TSX that weighs tons more in body weight.... if such a light car can get up to 163lb ft torque, dont you think the TSX should get even more torque?

Only wish our TSX has near 200lb ft torque consider the near 3500lb curb weight

damn toyota's crafty. they're distracting our youth from buying cars that don't make you want to slap them for owning it (by offering quality, affordability, and performance in one little package, odd-looking though it may be).

scion....a refuge for the trendy with a budget. sheep. they're all sheep.

seriously though, scions are ugly.

right on Lung Fu Mo Shi.

yeah but the tc for the price is hard to beat.. if i was looking for a coupe w/o breaking the bank I would take that over a civic..

Especially with all the mods T(e)RD will be coming out with...

Plus you get to play fun games with idiots that know nothing about cars. "it's a PSY-ON" what? A PSYON! You know.. its a new car company.. oh really? yeah.. hehe

Say what you want about the Scion xB, it's the roomiest car I've ever been in. Without a doubt. I'm a big guy and I had PLENTY of room in the backseat with the driver's seat all the way back.

Why would you want a Civic? That car is already dated and the engines sux.

The RSX kinda feels old and unrefined too.

The Scion tC will give the RSX a run for the money. They just started arriving at the local dealers here. I will go check it out sometime.
