Scheduled Maint???

Hi All,

I have reading a lot from this forum, and this my first post.

I am very close to finalizing on a TSX, but an Audi 1.8T has been my dream for a long time now. I have a question abt the scheduled maintenance. Audi (and most other german automakers) gives me free schedules maintenance, and Acura does not? What does scheduled maintenance, constitute and is it a big deal? Is it a major part of the price difference between the cars?

Thanks

Thanks guys. Didnt get the joke though
Talking abt maintaining cars, and free maint etc ......
A lot of people have mentioned the advantages of leasing a car for a 3-4 yr period, paying less, and then when u go to give it back, the dealer has a vested interest, in getting you to buy the car as opposed to just taking it back. Now, you have the edge, you leverage it, get a good deal (better that probably what u would have paid for to buy it in the first place) and basically, make out like a bandit !!!!
Is this baloney, or does the math jive???

Cheers

Sorry vbalan. The inside joke is that the person holding up the STFU NOOB sign is actually a picture of a moderator on this board. The moderator is on vacation and folks have been photoshopping his picture and having some fun at his expense on other threads. Anyway, I've never leased a car so maybe someone else can address your question. Nevertheless, I thought you deserved an explanation. Again, welcome to the board.

Personally I think leasing a vehicle is only good if you can claim part of the lease payments for tax purposes or leases are good if you like to switch cars every 3 to 4 years. Basically, leases are rent payments...you pay a monthly fee to use the car.

And welcome to the board.

The Audi 1.8T has engine problems, and Audis historically lose A LOT of value very fast. I know because I own an A6 which already lost 65% of its value in 4 yrs. Pretty sick.

I believe the warranty on the Audi is 3 yrs vs. 4 for the Acura. Audi maintenance after the warranty period is over is much more expensive than Acura's. It's $65 per oil chg; which you cannot have it done elsewhere, due to special filter and oil. And other maint. is over $500 each time. TSX oil chg is $25-50, depending on dealer and can be done anywhere. Maint. at dealer varies from $160-400 depending on location. I'm sure it's more for later services after 20K, though. My TSX has 17K.

VW stopped free maint. I expect others to follow soon.

Sch maint is not a big deal, I think. Car is very reliable, though early '04 models have lots of rattles. Wait for '05!

welcome. it depends on how long you plan on keeping your car.

generally speaking:
higher long term costs (esp. after warranty runs out) = audi
higher interval/short term costs = acura

i dunno, seems to me most honda/acura drivers keep their cars for a long time, sometimes too long.
