riced-out accord pwned by snow
so here's a brief story (or warning) about snow banks and side-street parking.
where i live is ruled by side-street parking b/c of all the condos and apts in the area. i never had to deal with this, and the prospect of snow or getting plowed in by a snow plow until i got my car this past december.
this is what exactly happened with the recent snow fall. cars plowed in, no spots, no one clears out the snow. just huge frozen chunks or these mini-embankments on the sides of the streets. so this makes it pretty difficult to find spots and park. even moreso, since mayor bloomberg decided that opposite side of the street parking is still in effect for streetcleaning (even though i have no idea what they plan to clean).
so this neighbor of ours has this old civic that's riced out. it's this blueish, almost-purple tone. horrible tints that are turning color. carbon-fiber hood, nasty rims, lowered, etc...i guess he was trying to park his car last night to avoid moving it the next morning. only the entire side of that street was riddled w/ the snow chunks and embankments which were frozen solid last night.
i think there was a higher pile of snow right below his front bumper b/c when i came out this morning, his front end was partially torn off the car and lodged on top of some snow. he must've backed in pretty hard. the combination of that, the snow hump hooking his bumper, and the lowered car...it just ripped the thing right off. it looked like a beached whale in a pile of snow.
i wish i had pics to show you. maybe i'll try to take some when i get home if it's around. so yeah...street parkers in snowy conditions beware. i actually shoveled out a spot for myself to avoid all the scraping and possibility of getting stuck.

She said: it's GINORMOUS!
that's because this NYC sanitation is runned by hapless dimwits. they knew the storm was coming for 4 days. on Thursday i had to go to Paramus NJ from Brooklyn and NONE of snowplows were in sight. So basically, the Belt Parkway, Westside Highway, and Route 4 in NJ were all going at 20mph.
they waited until it started icing to plow, and even a lot of streets in Queens are solid blocks of ice. i saw a woman trying to parallel park her BMW, she held up half a block of cars trying to figure out the ice.
Thanks alot NY sanitation and major BLOOMBERG, you cheapskates!
anyway, enough complaining, i have warm garage parking - one tangible goodness in winter seasons
