Revving to 2.8k rpm when engine is stone cold....
today, i got into my car and turned on my car. but the floor carpet was on the accelerator, so when i tried to get up to get something under me on my seat, my foot pushed the carpet, thus pushing the accelerator, and my rpm shot up to 2.8k rpm while in Neutral. My engine was stone cold (hadnt been turned on since the day before), and this happened like 5 secs. after i turned on my car. scared the hell out of me
i know that when your engine is cold you should drive un-aggressively, but do you think this was okay? im worried i damaged my engine.
thanks!

absolutely nothing what so ever will happen to your engine. if that causes some serious permanent damage, honda would have been out of business for years, not to mention other makes.

Lol every time I got into my old prelude I took it to redline cold or warm... I just really like the exahust sound!!! No harm done to it tho, it still runs like a champ , I'm still in touch with the person I sold it to.

No offense, but you've really gotta stop worrying so much about these minor things. The only posts I've seen you make are questions about whether or not you've destroyed your engine/tranny .

2800 RPM is nothing for a Honda.
As long as the oil pressure was up (and 5 seconds is plenty of time), this is a no-brainer.
Incidentally, I think lugging a motor (e.g. too low RPM) when cold should also be avoided. For the TSX, 3000 RPM is fine when warming up, but I wouldn't be driving around too much below 2000 RPM.

Well think about this when you acclerate after you started your car and its moving your in the 2k range if your going easy on it. This is assuming you get in the car and go and dont warm it up first.

As for the original question...2.8k is a low rpm. I drive when the engine is cold, and I try to avoid 4k until the engine is warm.
