Replace tires on leased TSX?

I have a 42-month lease on my TSX (got it 8 months ago). I am concerned about the tires not having enough tread at the end of the lease and getting reamed for a marked-up tire replacement charge by Honda Financial.

Should I get new tires now in order to prevent possibly paying even more later? I live in Colorado--would better all-seasons be a good idea anyway?

You'll have to replace tires one way or another so it's best you do it yourself and avoid the crazy dealer markup at the end of the lease.

So you think it's a pretty sure bet that after a 42-month lease I'll have to replace the tires no matter what? (assume 42,000 miles)

Yup. Those tires are only going to last around 30k miles, based on the numbers I've seen so far. Just make sure you put four of the same tires on the car because otherwise, you'll still get reamed in the end.

Besides, this is a good excuse to put some higher performance tires on the car.

You'll probably be very close to needing new tires at that point but you still might be OK. I've read reports of people going anywhere from 18k miles to 66k miles on the OEM rubber so I guess it depends a lot on how you drive.

Isn't this something to worry about in, say, month 40 of the lease?

There's no reason to stress out about it now.

Wait until the last piece of rubber falls off and replace with the cheapest set you can find...?

I disagree. If I'm going to buy new tires at the end of the lease, I'd rather get them now and get some nice tires to enjoy for the length of the lease, and then put the partially used OEM tires back on right before I turn it back in.

Then you might as well do that anyway. You'll most likely have to change the tires if you drive with any level of enthusiasm. You might as well get a nice, grippy tire and then replace the OEM Michelins right before you turn the car back in.

I work for HFS and all you need to do when you turn in your lease is make sure the tires on it are the same speed rating and the tread is at least 4/32. They can be used or whatever but they have to have 4/32 tread on them

Must it be the same speed rating or is it same speed rating or better?
