Question for those with backup cameras

I know that some might think this belongs in off topic but I put it here because I'm asking TSX specific.

Anyway, of those of you who have a backup cam, have you gone through a drive-through car wash? I'm asking because I don't know if mine will hold if it gets hit a few times by those hanging rags that swing around.

Thanks guys!

Yes, I brave the slapper.

My cam is only held on by 3M tape only, no screws, and you've probably seen it in the A/V section. So far it has held up just fine, and has also not been damaged by the water / soap from the carwash, or hard rain for that matter. I do make sure to try to wipe the lens with glass cleaner once every week or so just to keep it fresh.

Yes, I wipe mine, too, but I wanted to make sure that the swinging rags at the carwash (you know, the drive-through kind) won't knock it off.

Thanks!

You would risk scratching your car from using automated car washes?

I live in Alexandria, Va. If anyone can point out a carwash by where I live (let's limit it to a 15 minute drive) I would gladly use that. Otherwise, there is no other way as I do not have a hose at my apt. complex and none of my friends (that live close by) live in a house with a hose.

You might say that I'm hosed, lol.

i think leaving ur car dirty would keep it in better condition than running it through one of those carwashes

Thanks!

Why not take tyour car to a laser wash and you will not have to worry about any rags. I would NEVER take my car to one of those swinging cloth places.

WTF is a laser wash?

I should look for a touchless carwash around here, tho, but there is a regular one about three blocks away (and I'm lazy sometimes).

the 'laser wash' or gas station style wash (where its just water jets, no rags) can be worse than a rag wash. they recyle the water from those things so you've got high powered jets of grimy water blasting your car. I find they do a poor job, tho I do confess to frequenting them in the winter when all I'm interested in is getting the salt off.

What's the prob with rags?

I've put mine through NW Car wash - I purposely go to one with those hanging rags and I've yet to see any scratches on my beautiful PWP

Those jets /lasers are a waste of money. They don't clean very well.

Well, I guess I'll just have to do trial by fire. I'll go to the carwash next week or so and see if it knocks my camera off.

Don't think the water is grimy. It might be recycled, but that is OK.I get my car diamond glossed from Ziebart in the spring, and all I need is water to clean mine. At the meet you will see that my TSX is pristine. I prefer laser to even washing it myself.

Yep, thats me. The dealer replace the front bumper asap. Looking forward to seeing that backup camera. Just order the moulex, plug. I would like to see how you ran the cable. I don't think I like it going through the tag light, but if I have to, I will. Might even consider drilling a small hole. Finding that plug was not easy. Thanks goodness we have google

Welcome! This is one of the best mods in my opinion, and very cheap. The most expensive thing is the camera.

Some of the better cameras I've seen are the wendy's cam that reach and some others are using (check ebay, look for the seller swm902, it's not actually called a wendy's cam) and the pioneer nd-bc2. there are some pics in the thread above.

i had a buddy ride in my car last night, he drives an is250, and he said that the camera was ultra clear compared to his lexus. good luck with the install, let us know how it goes! and post pics!
