PWP TouchUp brush/Pen Suck!
So I got a chip off the lower bumper and I decided to run to my Acura dealer to get a Touch-up Brush/Pen. BTW I have a PWP, anyways I started to apply the paint in and it look like water so I wanted for an hr to dry and re-apply and still it look like water. So I figure I try again and waiting for another hr to dry and then re-apply and now it look like silver WTF!! i'm going in for the 4th times but I got a feeling it's a really slow precedure by the time I think the color will match, the new TSX will be out Anyone experience this crap? btw I did shake the pen for over 5 min!!!

if it's coming out like water, it sounds like the solvent is coming out, but that the pigment is not...
Shake the hell out of it to try to get the pigment in the solvent. paint is a colloid, not a homogenous liquid, so it is common for the paint pigment to separate from the solvent. If that doesn't work, i would suggest you bring the pen back and get a new one.

PWP and white in general is a hard color to paint, it takes alot of coats. I have touched up a few things on my PWP using the tooth pick method and brushing and it never looks like it should. So IMO if it's big enough to notice from 5 feet - 10 feet away touch it up, if not, leave it. Unless it's a chip to the metal, then I touch it up just to prevent rust. However; an airbrusher can take those chips out and make it match perfectly for WAY less than a body shop.

Are you sure you're using the BASE side of the pen first? This stuff should look similar to the liquid "white-out" stuff you find in offices.
Then once that's dry, level it off to JUST below the surface of the existing paint, and then use the CLEARCOAT side of the pen to get the pearlescent finish on top of the base.
I actually fixed a 1/2" chip on my OEM lip whehre a huge pieve of gravel hit. I used my method above (with a few tricks to work on an area that big) and you can't tell the repair was done unless you're really close.

I had the same problem as the OP, color is greyish, and it is suppose to be "fresh" from the stealership. Curls...what are you talking about? My touchup paint has a brush on one side and a pen on the other. What is this BASE and clearcoat side of the brush you are talking about. Not trying to be ugly, just really confused as to if you have something we didn't get. Pics would help. Thanks.

Is this the one you are talking about that the US Dealers carry? US Paint Pen.. Because if so, they're shit in comparison to the one below:
Look at this one on eBay -- it's like the one I have (note the seller description: Manufactured by Honda Canada): Paint Pen

the canadian one is way better IMHO - the colour matches well and on the few cars i've used them on you can't tell you've done anything unless you come up really close...

i ordered the paint pen (paint and clearcoat) from some vendor on ebay.
works well. you just have to make sure the scratch is all cleaned out of wax and dirt. i haven't gotten around to trying to use some polisher to flatten it out. but it's better than seeing some huge white gash in my NHP.

Yep, the US touch up isn't even close, after 4 layers it just looks light gray and is very noticable. I tried doing the first layer with bright white touch up paint from Autozone then the Acura paint, alittle better but still not good. I'll have to try out the Canadian paint pen then.

I have a similar problem..
Ok I also have a pwp tsx and I went to the dealer that i bought my car at to get some touch up paint and they sold me the tl's WDP paint. I didnt realize it was the WDP and not the PWP so i put it on and now it doesnt match right.... That was a brush....Recently i went to another dealership and i got a PWP Pen, not a brush in hopes that it would work. I havent tried it out yet but now im getting the feeling that it also wont work because of the problem you had.

is the US pens that bad? i have NHB and i wanna try the acura US pen but i also might consider the duplicolor pen from autozone. they have specific acura colors. in fact i would like to purchase the kit that they offer that comes with filler, color, and clear coat. but i would like to know which is the best first, duplicolor, Acura US or Acura Canandian

With the touch-up paint, the problem isn't so much that the colors are off, but that it looks like you used nail polish or something because it's not a nice even sprayed-on coat of paint from the factory or a shop. The key is to use the smallest amount possible, doing extra coats if you have to, and finding a way to even it out so it isn't a glob of paint. That's the hard part. And it's really only useful on the smallest of scratches, otherwise it's very noticeable.
