Power Steering Pump Leak/Question?
Hi All,
I just got my first TSX, 2006, the Premium White Diamond Pearl color.. it's pretty sweet. Actually it's for my son, found a decent deal (especially with used car prices right now)... so it has a few minor things I have to fix, one that I knew of when buying it was a small PS pump leak, looks like that 'plug/bolt' on the top, my guess is that O-ring under the bolt?
looks like the previous owner tried to fix it with some type of high team silicone, haha, but it hardly works..
right now it looks dry in the photo,l but the car was idle today, normally after driving there's fluid all around that hack fix, and dripping towards the belt..
So my questions are:
1) Do I just swap out and install a replacement pump? (I did order a used one that was in clean working order )
2) Do I just un-do that bolt and replace the O-ring, versus replacing the entire pump?
I'm up for either, so wanted to ask everyone's opinions here since I've only done a PS pump once on my prior TL, and I just replaced it, didn't repair it...
Thanks!
- Mike

I'd start with the o-rings/rebuild the pump. you should be able to follow the TL DIY, just double check the part numbers: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-scans-841134/

Awesome, thanks for the advice.... I realized after looking at the pump some more it's gonna take a bit of work to get all that goop off of it and rebuild it, so I took it out and put my other used one in there for now, and it's running great.
Is it possible in the rebuild to also replace the bearing and anything else related to that pump shaft? or is all that pressed tight in there and too hard to replace? I would think these bearings also go after a while? prob. worth a replace if it can be done, while rebuilding the rest of it?

It's definitely a good idea to replace the bearing while you have everything apart. I used my press to remove the old bearing and to install the new one on the pump shaft.
