Potential buyer

I am in the stages of buying a TSX. The car that I am buying has 161 miles on it. To me that's alot of miles for a new car. Do you guys have any speculations on why the car had that many miles?

It could have served as a tradeoff between dealers. One dealer needed a car that your dealer had, so they sent another one in exchange... the one you're looking at.

Welcome here, btw.

Thanks I never thought of that. I'm just a little apprehensive because it's the first new car i have bought and I don't want to get the ripped off. They have just drop the price a $1000. I think that it's most likely because the 05 are out soon.

Yeah I wouldnt worry about the 161 miles. Even if it was flogged a bit, probably not too bad on the engine, maybe even good for it.

But USE IT. Act all skittish, like youre gonna walk away. Between that and the coming 05's should probably get a decent deal.

Good luck. You'll love it either way.

He told me that he read it wrong for some reason. It has only 10 miles not 161. Hmm Maybe his eyes were playing tricks on him. It will be mine by the end of the week.

Congrats, make sure the mileage is about 10. that's what's on mine. see that before you sign any contract. if it is 161, you can tell him you beleived it's a used car and try to get a discount or at least a few other accessories put in like fog lights, spoiler, etc. Putting in parts by the dealer is an easier swallow by the dealer to make a sale.

it could also be that the dealer sold the car through their finance deptartment and the deal fell through. i used to work at nissan hq and this is pretty common in the industry, especially with cars that are a little more expensive. people think they can afford the car and later realize they can't, so the dealer gets it back.

How would that affect the number of miles on the car? If it was titled, it is now a used car, otherwise, a paperwork deal should not create additional miles.

I think he's suggesting that the car was driven by the potential owner and then returned after funds fell through.

Although I can't imagine a dealer giving someone a car without securing funds first.

That is what it sounded like too. Not sure about anywhere else, but here you can't (legally, and I suspect most dealers would be sticklers about this, especially on a new car) drive a car off the lot without a title, thus if the car left the lot, then the financing went south the dealer is trying to sell a used car (technically) as a new car.

My last car arrived with 210 miles on it. I knew it was coming from NE Ohio, but it was my understanding that it was going to be flatbedded down to SW Ohio, not driven. I put up a hissy fit on the grounds that the first 500 miles are supposed to be the most important for babying the engine (I learned this on a list similar to this one) and the last thing you are supposed to do is drive a new car at the same high legal speed for 200 miles... I got another 1% taken off the price on the night of pick-up.
