I use it when passing or getting the car going.

Really some of us don't have the ease of choosing MT in nyc or local streets with stopsigns at every 30 feet.

i'm sorry that you can only do one thing at a time... but some of us have things that sometimes are pressing and time in traffic is one of those opportunity to sort it out in the head... regardless of what's going with me, i do pay attention to the road and it doesn't affect my driving significantly... i'm not one of those people who start veering into other lanes or drives like super slow once something other than driving enters the brain.

^ excellent

but, there are studies done that show that no matter the degree of distraction, it will increase the likelyhood of getting into an accident. I'm not trying to bash or anything, just don't want to see anyone harmed.

you obviously don't live in LA... if you did, drivers like me are like the least of your worries.

of the bad driver ranks are:
- middle aged small asian ladies driving big luxury cars, destroying all cars in parking vacinities,
- busniess men sporting mercs having limo tints that talk on their cells and merge into other lanes at random,
and my favorite,
- tiny gals in huge SUV's that wear the bling glasses, and have no idea how big their vehicles are, causing major fender benders because of lack of skill and excess of impatience

50 - 60 % of the time. I love to down shift to 4th on the freeway to pass someone up, or when making a slow turn at a junction, downshifting to 1st or 2nd. When I want to watch my MPG I definetely stay out of SS though.

All I can say is wow.

What divergent usages on the sport shift.

Some of us never use it, and a few of us use it almost exclusively (with a healthy percentage in the middle).

The crispness of the TSX's sport shift was one of the deciding factors that went into my choosing this car. I have not driven the Audi/VW DSG or the BMW SMG auto clutch transmissions yet, but in the world of plain old torque converter manumatics, the sport shift on the TSX is far and away the crispest and most responsive manumatic that I have driven (and I have driven many).

While it still does not have the visceral feel and engagement of a good old fashioned manual transmission, it has made the switch back to an auto transmission way less painful for me than it otherwise would have been. Doing the Hondata reflash also helps a great deal.

And maybe it's just age creeping up on me, but I do enjoy just shifting the damn thing into auto mode when stuck in traffic.

I only wish it came with another auto setting so that it holds 4th gear. That last gear is only good for one thing....fuel economy on a long boring interstate drive with no traffic around. Other than that circumstance, this car does not need a 5th gear (IMHO).

My overall answer is --> 5%

I use it probably every time I drive but only in situations where I want to downshift approaching a turn or on an on-ramp or if I want to get away from a light a little faster.

I use it about 90% of the time. The times when I don't use it is when I'm stuck in traffic (very rarely) and when I'm in parking lots or when I'm messing with accessories and I know I'll hit a light or turn.

Same here, I loved the TSX SS as soon as I tried it, the only other auto car that compared was the BMW 330i.

I test-drove an Audi A3 with SS since then and I wasn't really blown away or anything. The TSX auto is very smooth, you'd really have to nail the gas to notice a difference. I think most drivers will never notice that the DSG shifts quicker than a good auto.

I disagree, I drive in 5th most of the time in suburban traffic. Anytime I get above 60 km/h I go into 5th.

One thing I do wish is that the car had a lower 1st and 2nd gear that would let us redline at 100 km/h (60 mph) rather than 120 km/h. This would probably help the auto acceleration quite a bit.

I only use it when going downhill. The automatic mode is much faster response-wise.

Used it enough to verify that it works, then never again.

After spending the past twelve years driving standard, I'm done with that. The car can figure out what gear it's supposed to be in good enough without my help If I need to downshift, I just stomp the throttle.

Only about 5-10% of the time, I'm actually surprised how little I do use it, when I bought the car, I expected I would be using it at least 50% of the time.

Maybe 30% of the time.

I've been using it a teeny bit less since breaking in the engine.

06 with 4000+ KM on it.

I use SportShift rarely. When I do, it's either when I want to control my speed better (ie. on a downhill situation where I want to slow the car down a bit, or in an uphill situation when I want more instant response), or if I wanna drive like a grandpa and get the car faster to the longest gear, shifting at like 2K RPM (actually, I got decent mileage when I drove for a week like that....the regular auto program seems fairly agressive, or likely it's realized I like to be a bit agressive and adapted to that style). I don't use SS when I want to go fast, though, since I think the computer can do that better.......

If the TSX had a DSG like the Audi A3 I drove before I bought the TSX, I'd be in SS mode more often, since the DSG is a total blast with lightning responses to your paddle flicks!
