Password JDM Dry Carbon Test.....

Oh boy.
I ordered a Dry Carbon Fiber Manifold cover from Password: JDM.
On their site they had it listed as for "All K-Series Engines."

Well, that was a lie.
Turns out the only one they have is only for 06+ Civic Si's, and it has to have
some RBC or whatever manifold on it...

so...

I told them that I would obviously need to return it for a TSX K24 one, but they
said they don't make them. Not yet anyway.
It'll be around a month or so when they start to make them, and when they do
they said, they'd send me the first one.

And they'll hold on to my money the whole time while I wait...

...

Well, okay, whatever I can wait, right?

So today the Civic Manifold cover arrives. I figure I'll check it out, quality wise, then
send it back to them and wait for the right one.

Change in plans.

After looking at it, I'm sending it back, but demanding my money for a refund.
This is the crappiest piece of carbon fiber I've ever seen in my life.

The weave is just ridiculously loose and poorly done.

Here, look for yourself:

and by the way, my Mugen spark plug cover is solid as a rock.
no gaps or poor weaves at all.

so this is a pretty clear warning: never, ever buy any CF from Password: JDM.
They make junk.

Eh, you just got a crap one. I was looking at other things made by them in cf for civics, tegs, etc., and the weave seems to be great, so why generalize they make junk over one bad product?
I agree the weaves suck so whatever.

That piece looks pretty bad. I wonder how it would pass any kind of quality control...

Exactly.

That's why I generalize.

If Password: JDM puts out this crap to me, they must put out this crap to everyone.

What do you mean, you look at other stuff and the weave seems great?
You mean in pictures? Or in person, holding it up to the light?

This isn't just a small mistake.
Over 40% of the whole surface of the piece is like this.

My bad, I don't want cheap junk in my nice car.
It's not whatever to me.

Well, they don't even make one for the TSX.
so...

I asked that they change their website and not lie on it anymore.
So as other K-Series folks don't have to go through this.

They did.

It no longer says "for all K-Series Motors" it now says for "K-Series RBC."

So you'll get the same thing, for 06+ Civic Si's with the RBC Manifold only.

Please post pictures of you holding it up to a window or whatever when it
arrives. I'm curious to see if the quality is as poor as the one they sent me.

well, maybe the guy making this one was drunk or something.
the surface is all pitted too. I didn't take a picture of that.
but it's not smooth, and the pitting is very uneven.

I'm in a pickle really.

I really want a CF manifold cover, but I'm pretty sure this is the only company
that would make it...

oh I can tell just by looking at it it won't fit.
I could tell that before it arrived actually.

I recently switched out my Silver OEM cover with a silver/red sticker for a
Black OEM cover with a silver/black sticker, so I'm quite familiar with the exact
shape and size of the piece.

I never bothered to try to test fit it.
Password: JDM also acknowledges there's no way it'll fit.
That's why they're making one for the TSX/K24 soon.

yeah, but they make you pay for the return shipping.
so it's still a pain sort of.

you gonna take my place on the list for the TSX one?
or just get your money back?

I think im just going to refund it. Better to have my money in my pocket than in someone's else's pocket heh i learnt that from my personal finance class lol.

I just can't believe they do such a crappy job on it.

yeah, I hear ya, I was pretty stunned myself.

don't think I've heard a bad word about them yet.
that's just beyond bad quality too...

oh well.

we'll see how desperate I get for one in the future and if I'll try again.

Update:

Well.

...

This is indeed how all CF from Password: JDM looks and how it all is made.
According to them this is how they ship all of their CF stuff, and we just have to
deal with it. Their exact quote:

Hi,

Let me explain it to you: this has nothing to do with quality… what we try to do is
make it as light as possible and those little pinholes that you see there is just
resin not at those spots… anytime you do carbon or fiberglass all material when it
comes off a mold will have these pinholes, but what other places do is they lay on
even more resin or spray paint the back of the part to cover it up so to speak…
we don’t do that because it is something that we don’t deem necessary… if you
had a chance to kind of play with the part you would have seen that the part is
just as flexible and durable as that mugen piece… you should read that article we
have from Honda tuning to see how our carbon stuff is made and you can get an
idea of how different things are… in any case if you want to refund that is fine,
we’ll do that when we get the part back.

Thank You,

Password:JDM
So what do you all think of it now?
Knowing this was intentional and all...

Like I said on the other forum, pinhole is acceptable but they have WAY TOO MUCH on it. If people see this on their CF Hood, I have no idea what will they thought of it. Send the damn thing back and ask for refund + Shipping fee too.
