Angry paint chip -- now what?

Went out yesterday to do my first detailing and whatnot, and discovered a paint chip right above the acura logo on the trunk lid..

I picked up some touch-up paint, but wound up scraping the paint off because it was lumpy and high.

Does anyone know how to properly get rid of this? Im afraid to try the 1500 sandpaper.

Also, if someone knows of a shop or come-to-you service near Baltimore, MD that can handle this, I'd appreciate a pointer!

theres a write up around here in the wash section i think..

U're gonna need to layer the paint over the course of a few days to get the paint to adhere properly, then sand it down with unigrit 3000 sand paper, then buff it wish a machine.

Its that sand it down part that freaks me out. Won't it totally screw up the surrounding paint and clearcoat?

Go onto ebay and get the "touchup pen". I believe the canadian TSX's use the pens. The pens are more precise and you dont let as much out at a time.

Don't sand. Search the detailing and car care section on horror stories on sanding gone wrong. If you are a detailer, then you you know what you were doing and would have good work doing sanding. But since you are asking about a paint chip and probably not a detailer, I recommend you use the touch up paint, put on thin layers about 1 hour apart until you get a little blob, then letting it dry overnight. Then use Langka to get the touchup paint level back down to the surrounding paint.

If you have a claybar around, then you do the same with the layers, but after letting the final layer dry for about 1 hour, you then clay the touchup paint. The clay will cut off some of the height so that it is flush with the paint.
