Outside Temperature

In the instrument cluster of a 2005 TSX, there is a display of outside temperature.
This used to display a temperature which appeared to be correct when compared to known temperature for the day.
Some time ago, it started to give readings, which in hot weather, were clearly about 6 degrees (F) above actual temperature, so it can no longer be relied on as an accurate indication of temperature. Although it took a while realise it was inaccurate, there is a possibility that the changed happened after the car had been in the garage.
Is there something that could have become disconnected or is there a simple method to calibrate the gauge so we once more have an accurate reading.

You need to check calibration of Outside Air Temp sensor w/ a Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM). Resistance at 0 C (32F) in ice water should be about 6.25Kohms. At 20C (68F) should be about 2.5Kohms. If too far off, it should be replaced. There is no calibration procedure mentioned.

Or you could just replace the sensor. It's on back side of front bumper beam.

good luck

I have found external temperature displays in cars to be extremely accurate. My 05 was (as are my 010 and 07), and though I too experienced a temporary problem with accuracy, it actually passed and I never had a problem again (I bought a replacement sensor, but the problem corrected itself, and I don't think I ever did replace it). There are a few things that can effect the reading. If the car is inside (a garage), of course it will display the ambient temperature of that space. The methodology that is used to display the correct temperature is actually pretty complicated (I came across it once in a list of TSB's a few years ago, but forget the details) and it can take some time for the display to catch up with the temperature once the car is outside. Same with the display if a warm car is parked outside for a short period of time, then driven again. I've found that the radiant heat from the radiator can warm the sensor if it sits for a little while when it's really cold outside, then driven off. The sensors for these things appear to be pretty bulletproof, so I'd be surprised it yours is bad, but it could be. Oh, and you can calibrate the display (though as an amateur meteorologist, trust me, determining the correct ambient temperature just about anywhere is harder than you think). The instructions on how to adjust it are where else? In the owner's manual.

Outside Temperature

Thanks for your replies to this. The user manual is the last place I would have looked, I find it unusual to have that sort of information these days.
I will try the adjustments when I can get what I believe to be a condition where I have a good idea of the temperature.
