Opinions on trading my TSX for a TL?

I am seriously considering trading my 05 TSX for an 06 TL in the next few days. Main reasons:

1. TL will have a little more room for the family
2. I am 6'5" and the TL will give ME a little more room
3. Didn't get the NAV in the TSX and wish I would have (like a lot of people I know)
4. Bluetooth, memory seats

I would be interested in any opinions as to why I should or shouldn't do this? Would you do it if you could?

If you have the money, a North American made car (may have slight maintenance issue), and a loss in handling, then all is a go for you! The size is what you want/need, and you get a better engine (eats more gas tho, who cares if you can afford it)...that's it.

Amen. I don't have nav in my '05 TSX either and was wanting one after test driving a TL w/ nav a few weeks ago.

You gotta also think about the hit you'll take in the wallet for trading in a relatively new car....

I've head a lot of people say the NAVI is the '06 TSX is much better.

You can get both of those in an '06 TSX.

I'm not trying to talk you into getting an '06 TSX instead of anything -- I just wanted to make you aware (in case you weren't). Actually, I think trading an '05 car for an '06 car is a very stupid financial move, but if you have money to burn the more power to ya!

Well i think TL is more for ppl above 35 or 40. TSX has got a more sporty look than a TL. Moreover, Bluetooth and Memory seats and Navi are available in 06 TSX as well....
TL is more for people who drive Big Executive Mercs....

I would say go for it dude.
I have an 06 TSX and my brother has an 06 TL
i like his alot better. More options, a little more solid than mine. Subwoofer. Tape player. just alot more options. the only thing that feared me and getting that car is the gas. v6 on tl v4 on tsx so u make your choice. you gotta think of gas prices right now and if it will go any higher than the more money on the waste while u can be saving it for the tsx and be good on the long run.

I traded my '05 TL Auto non-Nav in for an '06 TSX Auto w/Nav. Here are some of my observations:

The TL is definitely roomier inside, I found the seats more comfortable and the audio to be superior to the TSX. Regarding performance relative to the '06 TSX, I am noticing most of the difference is in accelerating from speed (i.e. passing situations where the TL was eager and the TSX just doesn't seem to have anything left); off the line I have not noticed a material difference. With my driving habits, I was getting 23 MPG on the TL and 27 MPG on the TSX.

That being said, I am still very happy with my decision to "trade-down" to the TSX. The handling on the TSX seems crisper and better balanced; understeer seems better controlled and the car feels "lighter" and more agile. But most importantly, I have found the TSX build and material quality to be superior to my TL. Specific problems with my TL included the leather seats, which were designed to be "softer" but seems to wear very quickly; the glove box alignment - it doesn't; the dash developed a continual white haze and fading issue; paint quality was lacking and the car had numerous rattles. Many of these latter issues may have been resolved in the '06, I would just recommend you look at these carefully.

Overall, each car has its pluses and minuses, you just have to decide what is best for you.

Here are some things to consider

1. The navi on the '06 TL is slower and has less commands than the '06 TSX.
2. Like STL said, the TSX has almost the same luxury features as the '06 TL, including bluetooth and memory seats (minus memory mirror, better sound system, tpms, one-touch moonroof...)
3. The TL is missing the following that the TSX does have....fog lights, aux input for mp3 players, fold down rear seats
4. The TL is due for a refresh in 2007 and they should be adding some neat stuff

I say if you must get a car now, go for an '06 TSX...if you can wait a few months, check out the '07 TL before making a decision.

I think they were just trying to say that 9 times out of 10 financially, you are going to take a big hit when you make a trade like that. Sure you can finance anything these days, even whatever you are upside down on your payment.

But if you trade your car in that early, anything you put down on car #1 and the interest you are charged, hurts your chance of getting a "good" deal on the next car. Not to mention the payments you made already on car #1. But hey, if you have the cash to burn, it's a non issue.

the only problem I can see is that ugly line going down the side of the car...., its just my opinion..., but I feel the tsx is alot more attractive......, also the fact that it is made in the great US of A is a little discomforting...., be ready for a recall of some sorts.

Question I am thinking just the opposite!

I have an 04 6MT TL (sliver) with NO Navi. I have tinted the windows and put on the clear paint protection up front, but I really want the Navi. With todays prices for gas and the general all-around performance of the 6MT TSX I was thinking of trading (or selling my car) and moving "down".

It's really a NAVI thing and possibly a gas thing for me at this time. Any thoughts one way or the other?

I have those same exact needs (actually should be "wants") and have considered leasing an RL. Why? Sit in one and you'll find out.

In regards to upgrading to the TL, you'll satisfy all of those reasons above. But of course, everything has a price.

Price was not the main factor when I chose an '04 TSX over an '04 TL. The TL just didn't wow me (don't care so much about hp etc.), was too wide for comfort inside since i'm 5'8" and my wife is a little shorter, too wide for comfort outside since parking spaces tend to be narrow in the city and parking garages, and no fold down rear seat (this is our only car for as long as can can manage to live that way). It also felt more "dead" to drive than the more spirited TSX. In fact, the "spirit" of the TSX was one reason we bought it. The TL was more traditional (IMHO) Acura/Honda appliance whereas the TSX has something greater than the sum of its parts.

i've never needed or wanted nav. plus in the 10 years i plan to keep the car it'll likely get outdated data through lack of support and it'll look like ass when trying to sell it (think of a cassette Walkman compared to a super slim CD Walkman) because it'll be some big old appliance compared to what's offered that far down the road.

to each their own, tho. this is all just my story, which likely has zero relevance to your story!

I did virtually the exact same thing, except with an Auto '05 TL no-Navi to an '06 TSX Auto w/Navi... just add in build and material quality to the reasons why. I think you will be surprised at the resale value of your TL. I put no cap reduction on my TL lease, and the dealer gave me my lease balance for the TL some 8 months later. The TSX was ~$800 back of invoice so I don't know where the dealer made any money. They didn't have a used TL on their lot and claimed they could sell it real quick; I never did see it even make it to the lot.

Every new model year will have new features added so you going to traded in your 06 TL for a 08 TTLL for a heated cup holder? massage driver seat? build in coffee machine?...etc. Then why not just go for a 2 yr lease.

IMO going from an 04 to an 06 TSX makes no sense, again IMO. They just aren't different enough to justify it. But if you can justify it (ie. Bluetooth, Navi or the added HP) than all the power to you.

^^ I think the only valid reason for going from 04 to 06 is to switch from Auto to MT.

Not really. No way I would pay 15 to 20K (diiference between my 04 trade and 06) to switch trannies.

Should of test drove the Infiniti 2006 G35 (and check out the new look for 2007, it looks like the Infiniti M). The 06 has 280 HP for the AT and 300 HP for the MT.

The only thing I liked better in the TL is the leather.
Felt softer, but as been mentioned, owners complain about how quickly it's wearing.
