OK... how bad did I screw my engine up?
Howdy folks,
Well, seems I took her a little too far today.
I had always made it to 400 miles on one tank of gas. I knew I was close when I hit 415, and the next exit off the freeway was the one I was going to take to fill her up, but alas, she ran out, in the middle of the highway, just 1/2 mile away from the exit...
[Sidebar: Acura roadside assistance is awesome!]
So, how bad did I screw my engine/fuel injectors up? I know it's really not good for engines, especially fuel injected ones, to run out of gas, but do I need to be considering some "emergency" maintenance here? Fuel injector cleaner? Other additives? I'm probably fretting over nothing but I want to make sure I can take the proper steps to undo as much as I've done. She's due for an oil change anyway so taking an additional step at this point is beans.
Thanks for the advice!

fill with gas - done
(although its not good for the fuel pump to run empty)

Well the fuel pump is kind of cooled by the gas and you probably pumped up some nastyness from the bottom of your tank plus heated the pump by running it that low, the filter should have caught most of it. But fill it up and have the key "on" for a bit before you crank to let the pump refill the lines and give it a shot. Might take a bit of cranking so hope your battery is good.

in the 24th and a half...
It pisser on the clogging the fuel filter is it's an integral part of the fuel pump assembly. Running dry is bad for the pump, as mentioned, and bad for the strainer/filter becauseof all the crap that accumulates at the very bottom of the tank.
BTW, running to 400 and then running out about 415-420 shows you should be filling up about 350 or so. The problem with running low (400 is less than a gallon left for you) is that it ALSO overheats the fuel pump. The best policy is to never run below 2 gallons left.
