which oil filter is the best?

I want to switch to synthetic since all i do is city driving and i want to keep my car for a while, i dont mind spending a few extra bucks. Are bosch filters good? they are like $6 online? if not which ones are the best?

Unfortunately, on this site, asking which oil filter is best is kind of like asking which is the best color. We all have our opinions and our favorites. I'll comment, (and after this post, my guess is others will too), you decide. I think Bosch filters are good. I used them often in my Audi's. I've been using Purolator lately (PL14610) cause they're reasonably priced and easy to buy (2 pack from Amazon), and I'm sure I read something somewhere that prompted me to start using them in the first place. I have two TSX's in the family and we both drive fairly high miles, so I'm changing the oil fairly regularly (and both cars have well in excess of 100K miles on them). Both cars have used synthetic oil since new (well, the first change). Change intervals have varied between 5K and 7.5K miles. Neither car uses a drop of oil between changes. I've used K&N (expensive), I think Fram filters are OK, though many here have no use for them. The Mobil 1 filter seems popular. Wix apparently offers a quality filter at a reasonable price. And of course I assume the OE (Honda) filters are OK too (which used to be made by Fram. They may still, but I don't know who manufactures them now). The bottom line is, since we virtually never read about engine failures due to a poor oil filter, and the streets aren't littered with blown engines, my guess is as long as the oil and filter are changed on schedule, you'll never know the difference.

All that said, I wonder if you'd really benefit from the move to synthetic oil. The way I understand it is that where synthetic really shines is it maintains it's integrity better than dino oil at high operating temperatures (long runs) and it offers better adhesion qualities (more engine protection during cold starts). I might suggest a little research before you commit. You may find you'd be paying for protection that you won't really need. And.... contrary to what some might believe, the change intervals don't..... change. Since you do mostly (or mainly) city driving, that qualifies as severe service and you should be changing your oil and filter more often anyway (like every 3K-5K miles). I think I'd stick with regular oil and just be sure to change it regularly. My

Aren't you glad you asked?

Samba are you a grease monkey? J/k. Well said. You make sense "just stay with regular and Change it regularly". Just another thought but isn't synthetic oil better for racing/high rpms?

I've run Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 in my car for a few years now and love it. It's also very inexpensive for a synthetic, usually about $20-$23 for a 5L jug at Walmart.

I've also been using Bosch filters (the black ones with "Filtech media"), model 3323 (or 3233, I can't recall which). They've been excellent and are under $5 online (www.autopartsway.ca). Order a few filters, some drain plug gaskets, and some other parts to total $75, and shipping will be free. I use them all the time.

Mobil 1 oil and filter also. 0 issues @ 106K. My maintenance intervals are similar to Simba91102's.

I use the Purolator. There is a web site I found that dissected popular oil filters. The Purolator was near the top based on their criteria.

I run mobil 1. I buy it at Walmart and i buy their oil filters also.....they are made by purolator, which is a great brand.

Fram are really cheap guys. You can get the walmart oil filter for less money and it is a top of the line filter.

Purolator Gold is highly respected. I think the diligence of doing the oil changes on time matters more than the brand of filter.
