Oil change - ramps or jack stands?

For those of you that change your own oil, do you use ramps or jack stands? I would prefer ramps but am putting on Tein Basics in a week or two so my car will definitely be low, so I'm not sure if there are even ramps that will accomodate. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!!

I used jack stands for the first oil change. Piece of cake and Imagine I'll continue with that strategy.

You can still jack up the car, then lower it on the ramps.

I pay my dealer AU$200 for a service and I bring my own oil. They are one of the best dealers in Sydney and is the top one for Honda in Australia. What do they do? They overfill my oil repeatedly by 0.4" above the maximum mark on the dipstick. When the warranty is over, I'm going to change the engine oil myself. I'm already changing the tranny oil at home.

On the bright side, they gave me a new wheel well liner because mine cracked and a new glovebox next week because the current one is not aligned.

Jack stands all day! Ramps should not even be sold. There is so much that can go wrong when using a ramp. For instance if too much throttle is applied when loading the car, the ramps could possibly slip out from underneath and have the car fall on them. Also there is the chance that you could drive clean over the ramp too. Have heard stories of both, makes for a pretty shitty day when you are just trying to do an oil change, and now you have to replace your rocker panels.

If you want to do oil changes yourself, get a good jack and stands. Make sure the jack isn't one of those cheapie $15 ones that's the size of a toothpick. Save yourself a lot of hassle and make sure to get a good jack.

I think it's so that he can access the oil filter without crawling underneath the car. I believe there's a flap in the wheels wheel that you can peel back and the oil filter is right there.

I actually use ramps. My ramps have a piece that's about 12 inches long and flat that's connected to the ramps. This way when i'm driving up the ramps wont slip out because the weight of the tire is on the peice while i'm trying to get up the incline. Then at the end there's a huge bump. If i dont give her any gas, she wont roll over it. So i just let her coast until she hits those.

But do whatever makes you feel better. If you need jackstands anyways for your suspension install you'd might as well just get the jackstands and try them out since you'll need those anyways. If that doesn't work out then get the ramps.

Plus, if you have an impact wrench. Pulling the wheel barely counts as work if the car's already up on jack stands.

The oil filter is much easier to get to by removing the wheel.
