Oil Change B2 Service light Sunnyvale Acura

I had the A1 Scheduled Maintenance, 1st oil change done at the dealership Sunnyvale Acura cost was $23.52 with 1/2 off coupon

B2 Scheduled Maintenance is oil change and they rotate tire but the cost is $159.00

1) Does anyone know of somewhere else to go besides the dealership in the Sunnyvale, CA area? Hopefully a Acura only maintenance shop or some place that's reliable.

Thanks...

The B2 is more than an Oil change and tire rotation....sort of.

Technically, A1 is Oil change AND tire rotation, the "1" signifying the tire roation.

Are you sure the other code is B2 and not B1? Is this only your second service coming up? I'm almost positive (but could easily be wrong) that the second service will show up as B1... Which is a oil change and alot of inspection stuff ie brake pads, lines, exhaust etc, and the 1 again meaning rotation

You are right it is B1... but still $159.00 for an oil change & tire rotation is a lot. I'd still like to find a good Acura/Honda shop in San Jose, CA area to get my maintenance done at. Sure they look at other stuff but $159.00 is way to much.

it doesn't hurt to ask them to lower the price, or see if they honor other service center's prices....

I take my 05' TSX to an independent shop in Milpitas. The place is called Exact Motorsport. They're been servicing the car since I brought it brand new in 05'. It's family owned and they do a good job at a good price compared to the dealership. They usually serviced Lexus and Acura.

$23.52 with a half off coupon!

$159.00 for an oil change and tire rotation!

Please tell me they at least vacuumed the car and cleaned the windows for that kind of money.

I can confirm that several of the dealers in the Denver area charge $160 for B1. Honda charges $100 for their 10000 mile service, which is pretty much exactly the same as B1. I haven't been in yet, but I take the TSX in to Honda over the weekend so I'll let you know how it goes.

Next time you're in the dealership, ask them to provide you with a list of EXACTLY what they do for each service.

Much of it is "visually inspect hoses and belts" blah blah blah after oil change and tire rotation. You should be able to ask them to do anything that you can't (or don't want to) do. You can save some money that way.
I am going to do this myself when I head to the dealership to get some touch-up paint. I've got my 15,000 mile service coming up and am concerned that it's gonna cost ~$200.

I did ask and it was mostly visually inspect hoses, belts and brakes... and yes the window washer fluid. I really just need a oil & filter change and tires rotated. $159.00 is to much for just that. I'll call and see what the charge for and oil change & tire rotation and not mention the B1 service light.

2006 TSX Maintainence Minder List from Man

.
From 2006 TSX Manual PDF at Acura Ownerlink site: http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/
**my cut and paste**

2006 TSX Maintainence Minder Codes (p274)

Maintainence Main Items
A=
  • Replace engine oil
B=
  • Replace engine oil and oil filter
  • Inspect front and rear brakes
  • Check parking brake adjustment
  • Inspect these items:
-Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
    -Suspension components
    -Driveshaft boots
-Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
-All fluid levels and condition of fluids
    -Exhaust system
    -Fuel lines and connections
Maintainence Sub Items
1=
  • Rotate tires
2=
  • Replace air cleaner element
If you drive in dusty conditions, replace every 15,000
    miles (24,000 km).
  • Replace dust and pollen filter
If you drive primarily in urban areas that have high
concentrations of soot in the air from industry and
from diesel-powered vehicles, replace every 15,000
    miles (24,000 km).
  • Inspect drive belt
3=
  • Replace transmission fluid
Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle
speeds or trailer towing results in higher
    transmission and transfer temperatures. This
requires transmission and transfer fluid changes
more frequently than recommended by the
maintenance minder. If you regularly drive your
vehicle under these conditions, have the transmission
and transfer fluid changed at 60,000 miles (100,000
km), then every 30,000 miles (48,000 km). (For A/T
    only.)
4=
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Inspect valve clearance
5=
  • Replace engine coolant

NOTE:
  • Inspect idle speed every 160,000miles (256,000 km).
  • Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 only if they are noisy.
  • Independent of themaintenancemessages in themulti-information
  • display, replace the brake fluid every 3 years.

Recommendation:
I've used Foreign Affair for 20 years on Hondas and now my TSX. They're almost exclusively Honda/Acura. I recommend them highly, sticking with their service was one of the reasons I continued with a Honda line car.

Not inexpensive, but less than dealers and much more responsive.

Foreign Affair, 490 Perry Court, Santa Clara; near Trimble and 101. (408) 727-4884.

[I have no affiliation with them, just a very long term satisfied customer]

I have taken both my cars to an independant shop on Evelyn Street, in Sunnyvale.

Ask for Scott at Art Stange Auto Repair. I took my acura in for 30K miles service, and he basically told me mostly he is giong to just go over and inspect a lot of stuff and it doesnt really involve any actual work. I respect that kind of honesty.

Tell him the guy in a black acura sent you over.

I had B1 on my 2005 TSX from Sunnyvale Acura last year.
They did ask if I need a car wash. They really did top off all the fluid.... windshield fluid was all over the place.....
Also, the power steering pump had some strange sound after the service that never goes away since then.....

Thumbs up Acura & Honda Specialist in Sunnyvale, CA

This is a no brainer. Go to Japanese Beetle Inc. in Sunnyvale. It is 2 blocks from Sunnyvale Acura on El Camino and has been specializing in Honda Products since 1975. My family, Friends and I have been going to Japanese Beetle since 1982. Never a problem with the cars or their servicing ever. See their website and they have hundreds of customer testimonials on there. http://www.JapaneseBeetle.com for more info. 408-730-8900 is their phone.

Regards,

Bud C. Kenny

Northern Va

hi all, i didn't want to post a new thread seeing that this thread relates to me (even though i'm in northern va).

my mid is showing b 1 2. and i go to the acura dealership in bailey's x-roads (radley acura). they are charging me $360.00 for that type of service (i get the free oil change because i bought the car there). i have a 2006 tsx 27,000 miles (yes i drive a lot).

is that a little costly? what are everyone's thoughts? i'm not car savvy. usually, i have my friend rotate my tires for me and all i have to do is dress up in a bikini (KIDDING). but seriously, now that it's showing b 1 2 for the first time, i looked at the manual and it says that filters (dust and pollen) and air cleaner needs to be changed.

thanks ya'll.

i just had B1 done--oil change, tire rotation, fluids check. ran me around $77, which was a lot less than the $130 they quoted.

i was suprised they even checked the fluids. on my way there, i noticed my winshield fluid was out. i was wondering if they would refill it.
