Oil above top mark
Hi: I had my 2004 TSX Automatic (63k miles) serviced yesterday. They used full synthetic for the 2nd time. When checking either cold or 5 minutes after turning engine off, the oil level is 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the top dipstick hole. I drove the car about 50 miles and there was no smoking or other seeming ill effects.
Will this damage the engine?
Thanks...

P.S. I did some Google searching and I see where some have used 1/4 inch OD PVC Vinyl tubing to siphon off some oil. Run the tubing down the dipstick, put your thumb over the end, pull it out and the tube will come up filled with oil to be disposed of. Any thoughts on this?
P.P.S. About how much extra oil (quarts) would 3/8 inches over top mark be?

This is what I use, via the AT dip stick tube, when the AT fluid is over filled, something similar should work in your case as well.

Thanks Zeta! I saw something similar on Amazon and was thinking about giving it a try. I don't really have a garage or place where I can do it though and I'm sure I will make a mess! I am probably going to take the car to the Acura stealership and just have them re-do the oil change. They get $90 but they have a coupon on their service department web page for $20 off including a wash and vacuum (which I need and would cost $20). I'll also save $15 of gas driving out to my mechanic (about $80 miles round-trip). It's worth it to me not to have to worry about engine damage.
I read my owner's manual and it's pretty clear on the subject!

If the dealership did the job wrong to begin with you shouldn't have to pay for them to do it right the 2nd time.......... my $0.02. If you aren't planning on heading back soon - call them and put them on notice so it is documented.

Thanks - I didnt have it done at the dealership the 1st time. I have a mechanic that did it and he say's 1/2 inch over the top mark is OK, won't damage the engine and he won't drain some of the excess oil out.

Excellent job of noticing the oil being overfilled as soon as you did. I've know Acura owners that had overfilled oil and didn't notice for the entire 5000-9000 oil life interval.
