Now That The Cars Are Out, Does Anyone Have Any Real World Gas Mileage Numbers?

This is a copy of my post from that site, before I deleted it there.

28.4 mpg with the A/C on, 1 tank of gas dealer's fill-up.
27.2 mpg with the A/C on, 2 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane
26.4 mpg with the A/C on, 3 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane
24.9 mpg with the A/C on, 4 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane most @ 90 mph
27.9 mpg with the A/C on, 5 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane
27.4 mpg with the A/C on, 6 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane
26.1 mpg with the A/C on, 7 tank of gas Safeway 91 octane
27.6 mpg with the A/C on, 8 tank of gas Union '76 91 octane
28.4 mpg with the A/C on, 9 tank of gas Union '76 91 octane
28.5 mpg with the A/C on, 10 tank of gas Union '76 91 octane (1/2 tank fill up)
27.3 mpg with the A/C on, 11 tank of gas Union '76 91 octane
28.3 mpg with the A/C on, 12 tank of gas Union '76 91 octane

I ran a comparison between Safeway 91 octane and Union '76 91 octane, as you can see, my TSX consistently gets better mileage on Union '76 gas. See page 2 of this thread. Does anyone else has similar experience?

I took a short road trip and got 702km (438.75 miles) which equates to 32.5 MPG. This was with the AC ON about 80 percent of the time. I think that's pretty good especially with 4 adults in the car as well. Not to mention I still had 10L (2.5G) left in the tank at fill up.

My city mileage is consistently 550km (343.75 miles) which is 26 MPG and I always have 12L or 3 G of fuel left over. I can't complain about fuel consumption.

After 2k miles, except for one tank that got 26.5mpg, everything else is exactly 23mpg.

I guess that's because I live in NY and my middle name is Leadfoot? :P

domn, did you use 93 octane or 91?

all of my numbers were from 93 octane fuel.

I got 36mpg but that was only highway driving on I-95 at 65-75mpg (traffic was moving a little slow).

I average about 26mpg according to my Navi's trip computer. I'm not sure how accurate it is though. This is mixed driving on highway and streets with the a/c on about 90% of the time. I'm content with it. Still better than my 2001 VR6 Jetta.

This is a great topic..I have long been concerned with the mileage issue in this car. My V-6 Accord get great mileage (better even than my 4 banger Chevy). and I am hesitant to move to a vehicle that uses premium fuel (higher octane). By the way-can anyone tell me if it is necesssary to use Premium or just "recommended." I imgine if Premium was not used, the mileage would go down. This is something important to me, as I will be using this car for business. I was hoping to get better mileage than my Accord because it is a 4 cyn. Anyone have a comparison between Honda/Acura or other thoughts?

388.2 miles on 12.1 gallons = 32.03 mpg (with some AC on and some windows down no/AC)
401.7 miles on 12.9 gallons = 31.14 mpg (with some AC on and some windows down no/AC)
444.3 miles on 13.6 gallons = 32.67 mpg (Whole trip with AC on and windows up)

This was on my previous trip this past weekend from Atlanta to Cleveland.

I get average of 23 MPG on a routine basis as most of my driving is in and around town, not much freeway.

Premium is just "recommended." If you don't use it, the knock sensor will recognize it and retard ignition (at the cost of performance/efficiency). If you're really serious about gas mileage, get the auto. The gear ratios in the manual are very agressive.

31.6 50% highway, lots of stop and go and sitting, AC
32.2 80% highway, mostly no AC
34.5 90% highway, mostly no AC

Holy crap! 32-34 highway MPG for the manual is awesome! And I think I read that someone got 36 MPG from the auto. That beats the "official" EPA estimates by a large margin!

IS IT AUGUST YET? I'M GOING CRAZY WAITING FOR MY CAR!!!

Hmm - let me think back to when folks were giving me grief about the "All Honda's beat the EPA MPG estimates". I have not had my TSX on a pure highway trip, but 32-34 is unreal for this kinda car. Go Honda (erm Acura )!

I like to hit "Reset" while I'm on a long downgrade and watch it say "99.9" for a few minutes.

Usually I average about 28, mixed highway & city -- mostly highway but a lot of it stop-and-go.
On lucky straight runs, it's about 31-32.

A/C has NO NOTICEABLE EFFECT!

But being in a hurry (or just playing NASCAR) cuts it way, way down -- to about 20-22.

The best MPG I have attained is 32.5 which was all highway, though I drove through the mountains for a good deal of the way. Not too shabby considering the changes in speed and elevation. Worst MPG was 21.1, which was entirely city drivng. Otherwise, I'd estimate I get around 26-27 mpg, which is actually better than I got in my integra for the same type of driving.

BTW, my car is a 6mt.

I just filled up from the tank that I finished my road trip on.

250 miles was highway, and 120 was city driving.

370.1 miles on 13.6 gallons of 93 octane = 27.2 MPG

Not too shabby...

Provench, you're absolutely right about Honda usually beating the EPA estimates. On my old ('91) Accord, I routinely got 32-33 highway MPG even though the car was rated for 28 MPG. I'm looking forward to what looks like even better fuel efficiency for the TSX.

I just got back from my vacation in maine this past weekend and I calculated about 31 MPG with the A/C on the entire trip. I did 390 miles on the tank of gas, but I forget how much gas I put in when I refueled...the slip is in my car.

My car calculated a little higher than I did on paper, but they were within 1 MPG of each other. My car has just over 2000 miles right now.

Ugh.. I'm getting just 20mpg. It's mostly all city driving, with my trips being between 1 and 3 miles each way. (Though on this tank I had probably 25% highway.) It's also due partly to my MT inexperience and driving quickly, and not particularly fuel efficiently. Still, I should be getting better than that, it seems.

It's about the same mpg and same driving habits as I had with my 1994 Camry V6, which was rated 18/24mpg for city/hwy. Except now the fuel's premium, so it's costing more.

Gboyz, is your TSX a 5AT or 6MT? (you didn't describe your car in the owners thread).

On my first tank of gas, which was about a 50-50 mix of driving winding secondary roads in southern NH and highway driving, I drove 390 miles on 14.6 gallons -- or roughly 26.7 mpg. (The trip computer reported 27.7 mpg.)

Mine is a 6MT.

Is there a more accurate way of determining your mileage than dividing the number of miles you drive by the number of gallons of gas your car takes at fill-up?

How accurate do people find the trip computer to be?

Thanks,

Mike

I am surprised at some of these numbers.

I have a 2003 TLS-Navi and get close to 34 MPG with 90% highway have averaged 25.9MPG for the life of the car.

I thought for sure you guys would be posting in the 40's more regularly.

Wait. Are you talking Canadian mpg? there is a difference between a US gallon and a Canadian gallon.

US gal: 3.78 litres
Can gal: 4.54 litres

36 mpg US = 43 mpg Can

I am talking American MPG.

For the life of my 03 TLS-Navi, I have averaged 25.9 MPG with mixed city/hwy driving. About 13k miles in a year.

I average 24.XX over the last 2 years with My 2k2 TLS. I went to Vegas on a trip best milage i got was 28MPG, but i used a/c and had a lead foot 80+mph.

What oil do you pu tinto your TLS, I can't find 20wt oil so i end up using 5-30 Mobil 1, i think that's what's hurting my gas milage.

sheesh, I have been driving almost exclusively in town lately, and have averaged only 20 MPG on both. I think that the low CG makes allows for really good highway numbers, but I am not that impressed with my in town number. However, it's entirely possible that other cars with V-6's would get in the teens with this kind of driving.

I also have a lead foot, but I make sure I use the cruise control on the highway, even if it is set at 80 or higher!

I use Mobil-1 full synthetic.

'06 5AT - Chevron 91 Octane - no a/c

278.8 mi / 13.822 US gal - 20.1 mpg
258.7 mi / 13.532 US gal - 19.1 mpg

My current tank is looking to be somewhere in between.

This is pretty much all city driving with trips between 3-5 miles. Lots of stop lights here in CA. About 20-40 miles of each tank was spent on the highway.

Pretty crappy numbers so far . I'm a pretty conservative driver, so I guess I'm a bit surprised.

Here's a more recent thread:

http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28276

I have an '06 MT with around 7k miles. It is continuing to improve with averages steadily moving up from 25 mpg at break in to ~ 30 mpg now. My wife averages about 32-33 hwy and I average 29 with mixed driving. All time high was 34.5. Those numbers are from the MID, which seems about 1.5 mpg optimistic from actual.

I have an icebox and am running 5w-20 oil (from dealer, go figure).

AC and mileage

BoCenter,

I noticed a modest improvement in mileage when I turned the AC to OFF. Somehow the AC can run as part of normal operation unless you actually turn it off.

I live in Los Angeles and I commute everyday only City. My MPG truly sucks for some reason. I drive super conservative and I only get 17MPG. My accord v6 I traded in got 18 and I drove it like a mad man. DO you think I should go to the dealer and raise their attention? PS I have an 06 AT TSX it's about weeks old. Otherwise I love this car.

I hace heard with some cars there can be an extensive "break in" period where your gas mileage will suffer. Our family also has an 05 honda civic ex that has just crossed the 5,000 mile mark and finally now is seeing true epa estimates for mileage. I would wait a couple months at least before you took it back to the dealer. Just start paying attention to how much gas you put in and how many miles you get to each future tank and see if there is a slow improvement. If you decide to go to the dealer, they are also going to want to see some of this data before proceeding (ie gas receipts and mileage per tank numbers)

I am happy to report that my recently purchased 05 5AT TSX is getting a new record high average of 24.1 miles per gallon. I went 364 miles when putting 15.1 gallons in the tank to refill. That's about 24mpg. I am pretty conservative with the pedal lately and this is about 85% city driving.
