I used to put my cell phone there but I noticed it interfered with the radio and CD player. Now its just for gum or used wrappers etc.

My cell phone must be pretty low tech. No interference. Sanyo 8200. One more thing I "discovered" is that the inside door handle has rubber at the bottom like the console cubbies. Cell fits great there too.

It's not Acura that's anti-smoking, it's the U.S. We just don't smoke as much as the rest of the world.

So Acura's just serving the market. And it's cheaper to cover the thing in red felt and tell the stupid and lawsuit-happy to not put their butts (lit ones, anyway) in there.

If some dumbass puts a cig in there and it catches fire, they deserve to wear a stupid sign.

What about those cars (seen in fords that I know of) that have the "not gasoline" sign (picture not the text) inside the trunk. Did cars EVER have gas intake holes in the trunk that they would have to remind peope that this cavity here is NOT for gasoline ?

well, they used to be behind the license plate, on the trunk. does that count? maybe they should put it on the keyhole.

umm... if you open the hood and look at the engine, right under the i-vtech sign there's a smaller one that says "Not a V6"

From what some people on the board have gotten from strangers, maybe there should be a sign that says "Not a TL".

they are pretty close. i'm sure now that i'm a TSX owner, i'll think differently, but i often see TLs and think, is that a TSX? or see a TSX and think it's a TL. other then the line down the side and the tail lights, it's hard to tell unless you're up close.

Don't forget the front-end (more the bottom of the front). One look at the front-end and it's obvious.

When my tsx was new, a guy in a parking lot commented how he liked my car. He asked me how much I paid and I said around $27K. He seemed very surprised and I said well this is not the TL it's the TSX and he then could understand how he was confused. That being said you don't see many Acuras in the small city I happened to be in at the time.

I wish Acura had left it out completely and made the storage compartment bigger! I'd get more use out of that.

exactly, i think it's useless. hardly anything fits in there. and most people say they use it for change, which there is already a spot for that. I find it frustrating that they just wasted this space. hope the fix it for future models.

I find it useful for small stuff that would normally go in the cup holders for me. As for the existing change slots... those are rather useless, except for the quarters slot. The slots fit quarters, dimes/pennies, and nickels. Dimes/pennies and nickels are utterly useless in most situations, so those slots are also useless. If they had slots that would fit quarters, loonies, and toonies, that would be perfect.

This is something i was thinking about doing, but not with a sirus starbase controller. I think it would work great for the concealed display for the Valentine 1, but I guess you would have to make your own mount so it didnt look like blah

Anyone else gut this thing out and use it for something else? Also if you did, did you relocate the power adapter, where too?

i had to remove the power socket in the compartment to fit the star base in there, it just snaps out, and then i cut through the opening to make more room .. it actually looks like a semicircle underneath the abs plastic sheet i put in there, which worked great to grip onto the starbase. you could just pop the power socket out, and then replug it in behind the compartment, or cut the socket connector off and hardwire the Valentine i imagine

Its a Betrayal of Images. Acura are copying the Belgian artist Magritte.
Anyone confused yet ! Maybe it is an ashtray, and Acura are laughing so hard because everyone is paying attention to their red, felt lined cubby that says "Not an ashtray'

Just a thought !!!

I thought it was wierd that the RL has ashtrays in the back door panels.

Oh and my T-mobile phone makes that random buzz and so does my friends Cingular.

Its definitely the phone. My Cingualr phone does it in my TSX, in my wife's Civic, and even on my computer speakers.

Yep, my cell phone buzzes the sound system too when placed there (since the "not an ashtray" is right over the amp). It's not Nextel, but a regular Cingular service. It only buzzes occasionally so it must be when the phone calls out to sync up with the cell service. It also buzzes right before I actually get a call.

I agree, I think this is their thought process.

What I thought was funny with my '00 TL, was that it too had the red felt coin tray instead of the ashtray, but the passenger had an ashtray and so did the two back doors on the arm rests, I think.

Going to take my TSX to the dealer as soon as I get some spare time to install the ashtray and lighter.

I use mine for my phone as well... as far as you guys who have buzzing from your phones they are from GSM phones.. CDMA phones don't have that problem
