not anotehr break-in thread!

i know there have been countless topics aout this, and i'm sure some people will probably have gripes with me for posting this is this section. BUT i just found this article about break-in and it's really intresting, i was hoping the resident gear-heads could shed some light on the subject. I'm thinking it has to be some kind of hoax or something, since I've never really heard of this theory (other that some people saying,"i've always heard you should drive it like you stole it") and if this was true there would be huge debates about it on every automobile messageboard. Let me know if this article holds water or not.

Thanks in Advance,
Dirk

I read the same article a while back, and began wondering the same thing... Is this legitimate or some sort of hoax? Honestly I don't think there is sufficient evidence to prove it either way.

my salesmen said don't redline it and don't drive the same speed for a long period of time. I've been getting it up to 4k rpm once its warmed up and it has 150miles on it. Hope it all works out.

the article pretty much says that the advice for break-in given to you by your dealer and the owner's manual is false and should only be followed if you don't want to extend the longevity of your engine. I was really hoping bassmechanic or one of the other resident mechanics on here could help prove or disprove this theory, I've never really seen or heard it debated before and everyone seems to just, "go by what the manual says" It seems that a lot of peopls stress how important using the correct procedure to break in a vehicle is, I just want to make sure that the dealership isn't some how trying to sabotage my car into lasting shorter, so i can buy another new car a few years earlier then I'd planned.
