It can't be too much more expensive than trying to Undent the hood and buff it down and paint it.

You might want to try some touch-up paint and some Lanka (www.langka.com).

And every time you make a claim you do risk your rates increasing

Touch up paint won't work well?
I got a small scratch on my Tsx, I just wondered what is a good scratch remover? That's one of the reasons why I park far, but there are still jealous jerks out there!

and it may not be enough to meet your deductible. cant tell unless you get an estimate.
i know several shops that could pull the dent with paintless dent repair. there is another guy that specialises in paint touchup. he could fill that chip, clear coat and sand that to look like new.

I had a similar dent on my pick-up's hood. It was much bigger dent than yours, but it didn't break the paint or show metal. I think some kid on skates or a bike ran into my parked pick-up and his elbow jabbed right into the hood pretty badly.
I bought a $20 Ding King kit (at Pep Boys), and it worked remarkably very very well for me. (However, a Consumer Report article on the same product found mixed results.)
Info at http://www.dingkingtool.com/
If that fails, you're out US$20, and there's always the body shop. I'm adverse to "bondo" type products and would just assume buy a new hood, especially when you sell the car later on. A professional will spot bondo jobs in no time flat. That's bad bad bad for resale.
Given the visibility of the hood, it would pay to get a top quality paint job otherwise in a few years you will see the difference. You might wait 'til calmer milder weather. The paint really takes a long time to properly cure.
