Next revision of the TSX

Howdy,

I was looking at getting an 09 TL however early rumors about it lead me to believe it may not be the right car for me. I've never really looked at the TSX before but now I'm interested. I think they came out pretty close to each other on this revision but I could be wrong since I didn't follow the TSX until this moment. Can you tell me when the TSX is due for a major release?

Thanks

We don't know exactly when either, but it will be spring, summer, or fall of 2008. The first year of the TSX (2004) was released in spring 2003, so many people believe it will be spring of 2008, but no one knows for sure yet.

Thanks for the info - I'm good with the size and features but the engine HP and MPG are not very good - I'm hoping the next model addresses that. If it had 300 HP and got the current MPG, I could understand it but the HP is a tad low and the MPG certainly doesn't justify it - seems like the specs of a 20 year old engine.

Not sure if you're talking TL or TSX here, but a lot of folks get very high 20's MPG in the TSX with occasional trips into the low to mid 30's on the highway - hard to beat short of an econo-box or hybrid.

I don't understand why people will think the TSX will have a 300HP, but better MPG. Although who wouldn't want more power and a better gas bill? I think most fail to appreciate with the CL9 is so good at.

TSX isn't supposed to be a 300HP car. I suggest you drive one before you pass judgment on it. Its amazing how many people pass it over simply because they read something on a piece of paper or website, vs touching and driving one themselves.

i heard somewhere in the neighborhood of 240hp and pretty close to the same MPG if not just bit less, although im sure the SH-AWD will eat up a little more gas than our FWD.

i don't know what this dude is talking about bad gas mileage in a TSX though... i get 32-35 mpg driving from Madison to Chicago all the time... and I don't go slow (have the speeding tickets to prove that one).

Whats the MPG difference between an AT and MT? It couldn't be much... maybe my MT gets a little better than those AT's out there... but thats a whole other topic.

I drive in LA which is all stop and go. The TSX has pretty comparable mileage to the TL which I currently have althogh the TL is a larger car and has about 50 more HP. Considering that the TSX is much lighter than the TL and has less HP, I would expect the TSX to get much better fuel economy. And while I don't need the speed, I could use the better MPG. So if it stayed at the current HP but gave my 25% better fuel efficiency, I'd be happy. On the plus side, I see they are coming out with a hybrid IS next year so that may answer my hopes if Acura doesn't come through although I've been driving Honda/Acura vehicles for the last 20 years or so, and would be happy sticking with them if they can overhaul their technology a bit.

I don't think the 2009 TSX will be SH-AWD.

Because if they did, then the 2009 TL has to be SH-AWD too and that takes the market away from the RL no?

The RL does have more going for it, but no one is willing to pay for that $50k price for it on an Acura (or otherwise known rebadged Honda), which explains the de-contented version which is priced in the low to mid $40k range. . Acura is supposedly going the Audi route offering AWD models in the midst of lacking RWD models to compensate. If Acura were to employ the new SH-AWD (RWD biased) system that was supposed to debut in the new NSX in the TL and the SH-AWD system in the TSX from the RL it would set them apart substantially as far as driving dynamics are concerned. The RL is not selling in massive numbers as Acura had hoped and to move upmarket as the brand hopes to do when introduced to the rest of the world as a luxury brand, they will have to offer something similar or better than the competition to standout (TSX comp=Audi A4, Volvo S40, BMW 1-series & 3 series, Lexus IS & ES, MB C-Class). At it's price point even the Mitsubishi Evo X, Subaru WRX STI, & Mazda Speed6 are competition in that department, so if Honda wants to cover all the bases I would suggest combining cues from all af the above. As far as the TL is concerned, it's competition are more along the lines of the Infiniti G35/G37, BMW 5-series, MB E class, Lexus GS, etc.

I'm pretty sure that what I heard was goin down... but I could be wrong. It might just be speculation.

It's nice to see that they're thinking about sportiness, but then they make the "livable sports car" remark which I take to mean "sips fuel".

I was checking out the RDX thread and came across this web article:

http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...icle_id=687615

Temple of VTEC talks about project RDX and they up the WHEEL HP and TQ with Hondata help from:

210whp@5000rpm/243lb-ft@3400rpm (240 hp/260 tq at crank)
to
249whp@5500rpms and more than 290lb-ft@3400 rpm (280 hp/310 tq at crank?)

The total package was about $3,000-$3,500+labor for the RDX with more than half the cost for wheels/tires/brakes. This means for only $1,500 to $1,800+labor for a serious upgrade in power for the 2.3T TSX in 09. They speculated with a larger turbo, the RDX (and soon TSX) could produce a lot more power at less than half the cost of a Comptech S/C.

The TSX may go from worst to first in the HP department at Acura starting with the 09 model. I would be more than happy to trade my 06 5AT for a 2.3T 6MT with this type of power potential!
