New VW GLI.... real competition for TSX
GLI vs TSX.
Hmmmm......... this car is looking like quite the competitor.
1. 2.0 Turbo engine. 200hp, all torque all the time
2. The seats are sick. Absolutely sic.
3. Great leather sport steering wheel.
4. Basically the new GTI with a trunk. And the new GTI is winning every award like crazy.
Now, I like the TSX. the engine needs more power, but the execution is flawless. I think that you are going to see some real comparos between these two cars.
Both priced around $27K. 4 cylinders, 4 doors.
VW can't match Acura reliability though.

GLI's are really nice.
never owned a vw though, let alone drive one. reliability issues, strictly from what i have read, is suspect, compared to the competitors in its classes...

For people who shop on features alone, the GLi looks very similar on paper.
Realistically, though, a lot of people are looking for a more upscale experience; that's why VW also has Audi. A front drive A4 2.0 6MT looks very similar as well; but gives the better dealership/service/warranty/amenities etc. that upscale cars bring to the table........
I do like the new body style of the A5 GLi/Jetta and the drivetrain looks sweet, but the last A4 GLi had more "goodies"........

If you're a guy who likes to change cars every 3 years, the GLI might be the right choice for you. My golf was a great car for the first 3 but by year 4 I knew I had to get rid of it in a hurry.

I leased a VW Jetta 1.8T for 4 years:
- 3 times in the shop for ignition coils
- 1 time because the passenger front window collapsed and the motor ground it up in the middle of winter (I live in Cleveland)
- 1 time for oxygen sensor or something that went bad after I drove car to Chicago. Only long trip I ever took.
Own TSX now and am very happy. Would never buy/lease a VW again...

I'm sorry but the TSX looks MUCH better than the new Jettas.... If you want style and luxury the TSX beats the Jetta.... I just traded in my 2001 Turbo Jetta for a 2005 CG/Ebony 6MT/NAV TSX at the beginning of the month... the things I miss about the jetta are minor and have nothing to do with styling, or power really....

I'm the Firestarter
I saw a new Jetta on the road today for the first time. I thought it looked very good.

37k miles later and have had only one small problem with it. Just got the clutch master cylinder replaced cuz it was making a lot of noise when depressed all the way. Other than that, flawless.
All in all, no comparison, IMO. I will never ever buy a VW again.
Just my $.02.
