Navigation... Worth it? How much should I expect to pay???

Saturday I negotiated a deal on a Silver MT6 TSX without Navigation...

Tomorrow (Monday) I am suppose to finalize the paper work. But I keep thinking about navigation... should I pony up the extra $$$?

Is it worth it? How much more should I expect to pay for the same car with Navigation? I know the MSRP is $2,000 but what have others paid?

Thanks.

Use the search button - plenty of discussions about the value of the GPS.

$1000 off sticker. If you think you should get the nav, GET THE NAV! You'll regret it later if you don't. It is the single BEST feature of my car.

$29K including the all weather package (trunk mat, wheel locks, and mud flaps). It added up to $32,050 after 7,75% CA taxes, DMV fees, and interest.

It's a pretty nice car... worth the expense.

You are right... so I just spoke to my dealer and asked him to sharpen his pencil for a model with Nav.

I was getting $1,435 off the sticker on a non-nav.

Think about it for a second though. Yes, it is a great feature that cetainly gives the car a "WOW" factor inside. The voice activated stuff is cool and it just simply looks great. However, for the $1500 to $2000 more you will pay to get it, figure what else you could spend that on.

To me, it simply came down to something that is cool, but I would never use except on rare occasions, in which a $5 map from Target will suffice.

I kept the $2,000 in my pocket and will likely put it towards a 46' DLP or LCD TV. Something I WILL use every day. Hell, you can take a hell of a vacation for $2k. You could put in hardwood floors in a large room. You could remodel a couple of rooms. Or, hell, you could even do something as rare as save it.

To me, NAVI is equivalent to a big waste of $2k, unless you have $2k bruning a hole in your pocket. Just my opinion, no offese should be taken by this post.

I use the NAVI option every week. Not only to find new places, but also to check the car's mpg, adjust the sound settings, A/C, and, of course, WOW my friends. I think that, while it was indeed very expensive, the feature makes trips much easier (like finding the next gas station, restaurant, etc.), and hence safer. The simply fact that everything is visible in large scale (8" LCD), makes it easier and faster for me to do what I want and still be able to drive. Plus, all the neat features, like the calculator, keep me awake in long trips at night.

SLO007, who's saving for the next 6 months to buy a plasma TV.

You guys don't make it easy...

Fortunately there are no target's near me and I already have the hardwood floors... as for vacation. What's that?

Get the Nav. It adds more then just a map. Very sweet feature that will be in the majority of cars down the line.

I was going to get it, however I was told it would take much longer to get the car I wanted with Navi.-guess its hard to get Navi. equiped 6MT cars??? In any case I don't really miss it, I was just getting it for the looks, I have never been lost and don't travel much outside my area with my car(I usually fly) and anything with in 2+ hours of me I know where is. I dropped the difference into my ROTH for this year, get an early jump on it since you can now contribute $4k/year. To me the future is more important then a luxury gizmo that will be outdated and look odd in the years to come.

If you can afford to get the car with Navi I'd say go get it. Personally if I had an extra $2000 to dish out I'd get it too. However since I am a college student and $2000 can be spent on something else, I was happy getting my TSX for $25,500. But if I had the chance to buy the Navi option I definately would.

And keep in mind if you want a nice LCD display to wow your friends you can always get a nice Pioneer aftermarket DVD GPS navigation system for around $1,200

i drive thru NJ, CT, and DC a lot and gps helps me bypass the clogged highways and take local.

it's worth my time not constantly pulling over and looking thru the bunch of maps...

It added $40 a month to my balloon finance. It comes in handy, saves you from a lot of wondering.

That's an excellent decision David. I have said it many times in the past: the navigation system is a must-have item. The only people who knock it are those that have never owned one. It's as simple as that. You can tell when they say to pick up a map at _______ store instead. They also usually include the price of the map. There is much more to the nav system than mere directions. Also, don't forget to add in about $800 at trade-in.

Since I am getting navi...

How about the voice commands. How (well) does it work? What are some functions it performs?

It comes in handy too. Its nice to do things and not have to take your eyes off the road. Great at night. I cant seem to get it to work like you see in the commercial for the TL though....

Sure, it s a great feature and I would love to have it, but it comes down to VALUE.....I dont need to pop a hardon beacuse rather then push the AC button or the CD buttons, I can see them on a 5 inch screen (oooo, aahhhh). I can pop plenty of hardons with the $2k I save (or the $1200 after that $800 boost in trade value).

I say this tongue and cheek "Guys who need a NAVI, got no sense of direction and need the extra WOW factor to compensate for lesser areas" (ITS A JOKE, SMILE):pfawk:

Its a good lil feature if its free, haha! Honestly it can be handy from time to time but I also have NAV in my 02 CLS and from time to time when I really needed to use it, it got me LOST or took me a longer route. Its a techinal achievement but its not perfect. I didnt get it with the TSX since I wouldn't mind getting lost and exploring here and there with the car...

GPS is never a replacement if you have your "preferred" way. I find in my 02 Grand Cherokee I seldomly use GPS in areas I am familar with... only if I'm not sure the "best" way between two of my clients.

But, I do like:

I don't think $2,000 is going to make that big a dent in the cost of a 46' TV.

Whenever this topic comes up, there's always a few folks that say they prefered to spend the money on something else. No prob. To each his own. The thing I've always wondered though is do these people pay cash for their cars? Most people that choose the nav are paying for it over their 3-5 year loan. If you choose not to get the nav, it's not like $2K is going to fall out of thin air into your lap.

Well obviously it's a money-saver, but it's practical and adds depth to the car. Although the intentions are mainly aiding those whom are geographically challenged, I still think it's well worth the money.

Ok, I had my fun playing the anti-NAVI guy, so I am done......if you want it, get it, thats that.

However, to the guy who said "you don't pay cash, you finance the $2000 anyway", that type of logic will keep you in debt forever. That $2,000 turns into $2,200 or $2,400 depending on you interest rate. If you wanna finance your life, cool............

You know... the thought of simply saving another $2k for the ol' down payment never crossed my mind. I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut when I get up at 2:30am for network maintenance.

don't get it!! everyone here forgot to mention that it adds... WEIGHT to our already heavy car. If performance matters to you, I wouldn't add an extra 15lbs to my car lol w00t w00t! spend your 2000k on light weight rims and make your car lighter and faster!

Now that is a good reason! After hearing about all the little "easter eggs" this navi includes, I wish I had gotten one (yes, I changed my mind).

So for everyone who's on the fence about this, take it from someone who didn't get one: GET THE FREAKIN' NAVI if you have the money to do so.

i like to play spy guy every now and then and bring up the debug screen that shows all the gps satellites around you... :P

i plan on keeping the car for 10-15 years, so i decided that if i'm going to drive it around that long, i might as well enjoy it... plus, i was also planning to getting another computer with that $2000, so i figured in-the-car was a good a place as any...

I think it would be safe to say that the navigation system of 2014 will be just slightly better than 2004.

honestly i think its a waste especially if you dont travel much. how many times do you really use it to look for directions or a resturant? my mom has one and it was cool for the first week, after that ive never messed with it. its more for eye candy. if it came with a tv tuner, it be totally worth it, it be useful in traffic. =D

the 2000 you save you could upgrade your stereo, suspension, and get a hondata. all things you will actually use and feel once you step into your car.

I use it around town a lot. Whenever I pick up a friend at home that I've never been to, I look up the address. Also, the address of a business I'm looking for.

I can honestly say that I would not have bought the TSX without the Navi. Admitedly I like gadgets, and I have Navi on my Honda Odyssey.

I doubt that there is a single day that I don't use the system. Even if I am taking the same route to work, it lets me estimate arrival time (which varies with traffic). I like the trip computer that acurately tells me milage (instantaneous as well as average).

The decision is obviously personal, but the extra cost was not a factor for me.
