Navigation Touchscreen gone wild
Hi everyone,
My navigation has been having a problem that has been getting progressively worse.
When I turn the car on, the navi boots up fine, but if I go on to use the touchscreen on the navigation things go a bit haywire. If i'm controlling the radio, and i press the button on the top left to go to my 1st preset station, the navi will press the bottom right button instead, or the return key, or whatever other button it feels like pressing that day. The not only happens in the radio section, but if i'm inputting an address, pressing Q may press G instead.
Also, sometimes while I'm driving not even touching the screen, buttons will be pressed on their own! screens may swithch (ie, navi will change to info, or trip screen will change to audio controls).
The strange this is, it happens very sporadically. Almost ALWAYS happens when i first start the car, while its been sitting for a while. and randomly only after 10 minutes of driving.
I went to the dealer for tihs, and they saw this issue while it was at it worst. They put the blame on the switchblade key, as it "is a TL key and may be sending signals to the navi". I've had the car with the same key since i bought the car, so i highly doubt it IS the key, especially being that so many people on this forum have the key.
Anyone else experience this?

That dealership is crazy, the key doesn't send no electronic power to any of the components. I would try to take it to another dealer. If you are under warranty they should take care of your problem.

the car is still under warranty. As a matter a fact, it has full bumper to bumper warranty till 100k miles and im only at 33k.
I will use my ugly old key for some time to see what happens I guess.
I have to say, I felt very uncomfortable at this dealer (my first time ever bringing the car in for service too)

no kidding.
my salesman didn't even know you could roll the windows down with the fob.
idiots.
your "touchscreen" isn't even a touchscreen by the way.
I'm guessing dirt is your problem.
there's, in effect, a laser grid that is shot over the screen of squares.
the screen itself is not a touch screen, the touch screen function is controlled
by where on this laser grid the lasers are interrupted.
get a can of that air stuff that cleans out keyboards and stuff.
dust remover it's called.
try shooting that all around the screen and it's edges, it's worth a go.
if that doesn't work, DEMAND a whole new unit be installed.

This is why I don't understand the general outrage about the lack of touch screen nav in the newer models. I always felt it was something that was set up to break or malfunction.
