Navigation System - Not Worth The Money Unless You Need It

I have the navi and like some of the features, but generally don't find myself using it much. The trip computer is cool, but most of the other "extra" features only duplicate the tools on my Treo, so I'm not likely to use them.
I do find it a bit annoying that I have to start fiddling with the touch screen or voice controls in order to manually adjust the ventilation (something I do from time to time.)
Not sure which way I'd go if I had to do it all again.

Get the Navigation System!
My family has a TL-S and when we bought it, I insisted on Nav. My father thanks me everytime he goes anywhere somewhat unfamiliar with it. On top of that, it is the intangibles that make it great:
Freedom to take any road you want without the stress or worrying of getting lost or remembering where you came from. (Convience of finding nice curvy TSX-friendly roads around you as well, without knowing the area).
The ability to find things to do when you're bored or with a date.... like hiking in a nice scenic recreational park, or going to a nice restaurant. The points of interest list are astounding!
Emergencies when you're on a tight schedule- gas, food, police, rest area, etc.
Basically the Nav system gives you a lot more information and knowledge...and everyone knows that knowledge is indeed power! Integrated technologies like this will be what makes our future lives more efficient and productive! Woohoo!
I just really wish the TSX had integrated Bluetooth like the 04 TL... then you could automatically have numbers dialed straight out of the nav database on your bluetooth enabled cell phone...I love that feature on the 04 TL.

I find the Navi very useful and well worth the money. Its so nice to just call someone on the road to get an address and be on your way, instead of trying to get to a computer to print out Mapquest.
It also makes the car much more luxurious.

Hey guy, I have been thinking about getting navigation but I heard that navigation has a lot of direction and information thru voice. U know what, I am deaf guy and can't hear the voice from the navigation. I am not sure if I should get navigation or not. I like the way of look on navigation than non-navigation. What do you guy think?

Well, just checked KBB..
Used 2004 TSX - 20000miles - no NAV - $23,930
Used 2004 TSX - 20000miles - with NAV - $24,600
Just a $670 difference.. but the price difference when you buy is around $2000.
Just a note for anyone trying to decide

When a car depreciates, it's not just the car itself that depreciates. Every single thing that's hooked up to it depreciates.
Try looking up some other models. I guarantee models that have leather, or heated seats, or anything else like that... their options will depreciate as well.
When it depreciates, it's based on a percentage of everything. Not just the car itself.
Think about it, if you buy a sound system and then a year later expect to sell it for the same price that you just got it? no.

you cant ask another human at 3 AM when you are dying for Jack in the Box tacos where the nearest hook up is. The one thing that bugs me about the Navi is how like Jack in the box is listed under 5 or so topics. Under each topic are different locations. On my previous car (2003 Toyota Matrix with a GM Delco Nav) it was under one heading. Beyond that the Acura nav is superiour. On the Matrix one had to be stopped to change anything, it wasn't a touch screen and the screen was smaller.

My friend drives a Lexus GS400 with navi and she so jocks my navi setup. She even went in to Lexus to see if the newer GS400's had voice activated Navi so she could be as pimp as me and my voice acteeevaytion! They told her, nope! Only Honda has that! This Navigation system and all of its features is hot! And will be for a few years to come.

thats the point, if you can afford it then get it...the issue of concern is whether or not its worth the money...and i think the unanimious answer is yes. But if you can't afford it and need the money for other things then you obviously shouldn't get it.
If your not getting it just beacuse you think you won't use it, and are boderline about it, everyone will tell you the same thing...get it. I was kinda shady about it, cause i've never needed it before. I can't tell you how many times this thing has saved my ass. It comes in handy very often.

Navigation and the "little things" with it are not worth $2000. I never skimp with my cars, and I thought $2000 was absolutely absurd. Make it half that price, and I would have went with it. It certainly is worth it for $670 on a used one though

It is a $670 difference IF you decide to sell it. If you want to keep the car for a long time (like some probable do) the $ worth at a year old is very subjective. For me, I agree with Savio, investing the $ where it can grow is the move to make. It is not because I need the $ I just believe that 2K in a house grows and 2K in a car decreases. That is the fact that helped me in my decision.
It would be a nice option, but no regrets for me.

To me it's well worth it.
- Ever run low on gas and need to find the closest gas station? Or ever needed to find the nearest walmart, target, etc.?
- How about calculating gas mileage? It tells you how many mpg you are getting and have gotten before. It also tells you how many more miles you can drive before you need to fill up.
- Ever been stuck in a traffic jam and needed to find an alternate route?
- How about finding a phone number for the nearest pizza rest. so you can order before swinging by and picking it up.
- And here is one I just benefited from....Ever think of adding a dvd player? Well you save money one the screen, because you already have one in the car.
So to reply to the original post....It is worth the money!!!! If you can't afford it, that's a different story! I have not seen 1 person that has said, " I wish I didn't get the Navi!" But I have seen plenty posts from people that would get the Navi if they could do it over again.

He has already established that he has...
(although it does contain a lot of insight for potential TSX owners trying weigh out the pro's & con's of purchasing a Navi unit)
BTW - The End...

didn't have the time to read all the opinions. but here is mine
5 years ago I was of the mind that navi in the car was the best way to go. the benefits are just tremondous when you do no need it. Long trips or travelling to a new place.
People used to say that you could get a portable one. As of 2 years ago, portable units were big, ugly, and cubersome to use.
This last year I had go work in Italy and I took several trips by car around Europe.
The rental didn't come with navi so at the beginning I was using maps from the internet. I was always getting lost so I bought an Atlas. Would still get lost.
Finally I broke down and bought a TomTom One for around $300 US that had all of Europe, except for Eastern.
This thing was small and very portable. I could easily hook it up and take it down. It fit in my pocket. The interface is very easy to use.
I was very surprised at how well it worked, even though the screen was smaller than my built in navi. It even has a walking mode that I used to find monuments and tourist attractions while I was on foot. Remember, it fits in your pocket.
So if today I had to buy a car, Navi is not a must have anymore. Before, I wouldn't even consider it.
Once I return to the US, I can take my TomTom with me when I fly away to vacation to other parts of the US, like Puerto Rico and have to rent a car.
I just need to buy the North America maps from the internet and download them to the TomTom. It has enough memory to hold Western Europe and North America.
I think eventually navi systems will become standard in cars. If not, portable gps systems continue dropping. I see more and more people using them.
