The OEM nav (and aftermarket nav systems) is fairly marginal -- but the integration with the rest of the car (particularly the audio and CC systems) is really nice and worth the extra imo. Plus it runs on an SH-4 which means I can write new code for it...

NO! NO NO NO NO! DO NOT EVER think like that!

Money today is money today, no matter how you pay it. Talking yourself into the "no, it's only 45 cents a day" philosophy will only ever result in pain.

How big is your screen?

To get Nav or Non-Nav. I got the non-Nav because I didn't want to spend the 2k for it. I also have 2 cars so I knew I was gonna get a portable to use between them.

I've been in the TSX with Navi, I absolutely love it. I really wish I had it. But for the money, portability and the frequency (not much) that I actually need it...I'd go non-Nav again.

I own a Garmin StreetPilot 2620 that I got for $500...it works wonderfully.

The screen is pretty small, 3.5" but that's enough to see everything that you need unless you're blind. Since my Garmin is placed above the dash on the windshield, I don't need to take my eyes off the road when I need to check the navi screen. While with the OEM even though the screen is big, you still need to look down to see what's going on down there, the only Acura that has the navi placed in a somewhat convinient spot is the RL imo.

Actually, 3d navigation is the most useless gimmick ever and IMO makes the map much more difficult to read.

which is why I elected to get the older 2620 instead of the 27xx series.

Thanks to TSX536's recommendation, I looked into the Pioneer N3 and it has EVERYTHING and more than the OEM navi. It even has an option for Live Traffic update and backup camera. Pretty cool...and it costs about the same as the OEM navi. The only downside is that it comes with bluetooth and mp3 but the '06 TSX already has those standard. So if you have an '05 or '04, aftermarket is the way to go.

The Garmin Is ok..I'm not fond of a suction cup stuck to the front windshield that holds the navi with wires dangling. I like the clean look of the interior and find adding something like a cellphone holder, IPOD holder, Garmin to ruin the lines of the interior.

The Pioneer unit is nice..but I already have a 6 disc changer and for 06's, the bluetooth is already there. Also, having to looking down at the screen when it's installed in the cubby hole is another safety concern.

That's just my preference and of course each person has thier own likes and dislikes.

Just a Q: would having a protable Garmin make the car more prone to theft or a snatch and grab? I would assume if you park the car in a mall that the garmin would be like a laptop, if someone sees it in the car, you'll know it'll get broken into.

I take my portable down if I feel weird about a place but usually I leave it on my dash.
