Which voice did u set yours to? I tried both the male and female voice on my navi and I had to picked the male voice because his voice was more clearer to understand when he says "make a left turn" than the female voice. My gf joked that Acura should've put a sexier female navi voice and then I would really appreciate female authority then! :P

I don't have nav, but Star Trek has conditioned me to believe that all computers are female. Everytime I hear a male computer voice, it just sounds weird.

i turned off the voice feedback on my nav. the voice feedback was cool at first (especially with naive friends in the car), but having the voice come on and interrupt my music became annoying after a while... i look at the screen to see where i'm supposed to turn.

but if i had to pick one, i would pick the female voice.

a 'ghetto expansion pack' would be funny. what about expansion packs for different accents? or enable the nav to understand different accents...

They even knew that in Star Trek - the computer never told them where to go - she just opened doors, turned off lights, made tea, and things like that.

I heard from a prof that BMW (right?) had to recall a line of cars in Germany because they had a female navigation voice and German men don't trust women for directions.

I opted to order my TSX sans navigation because of this. The last thing I want is some b!tch telling me I don't know where I'm going, if that were the case I would get married!! And the jokes from the male friends would never end if I had a male voice dictating directions- I never get lost any way, I was, uh, just looking for a short cut

Now the only difference between my car telling me where to go and my girlfriend telling me where to go is that the car actually gives me the correct directions.

Female for me as well. I believe they use female voice in fighter jet cockpits as well since a study showed that the pilots would listen more to a female voice. I am sure some wives might disagree with that. :-)

Look at Microsoft's speech engine; at least 28 voices/tones/dialects per sex. Any word on Acura handing down some alternatives? The Voice Select screen obviously can handle more than just "guy" or "Girl" (mine's a girl, btw...it's nice to hear a female voice that actually KNOWS where to turn...helps to drown out my wife). If not, we've got a pretty strong group of users/consumers here, so why not throw our shoulders to the wheel and get Mother Acura to release some new vocalizations? I'm a noob, so obviously I have no weight in the matter, but I'm willing to throw whatever I can at the issue...

Anyway, I have mine set to female. Yeah, I heard before that for male pilots in the military, that female voices kept them more calm... kinda like a soothing mother's voice. A male voice made pilots panic more.
