Nav or no nav?
I'm about to buy but I'm curious.
What do the Navigation system owners think? Is it worth it? Are you glad you have it? Pros and Cons?
My biggest concern is that it might seem outdated in a few years the way technology is constantly improving. Thoughts?

I have TSX NAV and totally love it. Is it required? No, absolutely not. But does it come in amazingly useful at times? Yes. Does it make my dash look much nicer? Yes. Do I think it's worth the $2k+ extra I had to pay for my car? Probably yes.
What does technology improving have to do with getting the NAV? Are you planning on installing something aftermarket?

I think if you do a search you'll find this topic has been brought up many times. I don't have one, wish I had one to play with, but don't feel strongly about its absence in my dash.
Technology is constantly outdating itself - you'll never avoid this. I recommend not trying

I got my car with the nav. Like what everyone is saying, it's not a "must have", but it's a nice treat. If you have the money and can justify spending 2k+ then I say go for it.
I must say it comes in handy on my road trips and when I am trying to avoid NYC traffic.

It's about as useful as a microwave oven in the early 80s. I remember lots of folks saying it is just an expensive toy that won't really catch on that you can do without.
I won't buy another car without one if I have a choice.

i was having a bit of a friendly argument with another user on another thread just like this one. u should definately get nav if u travel to different places often, are very bad with directions (like me) and want to save yourself the time from asking for directions and looking on a map, or often find oyurself ina situation where u gotta go places u don't know the location of. i really really reccomend navi, its easy to use, will save ur ass many times, and plus is adds to the coolness factor of the car's interior. if digging up the extra 2k is not a problem, go for it.

The car itself will depreciate just as fast as the technology in the nav, so don't let that be a factor in your choice. If you would like it, and can afford it, go for it. If it's out of the price range, don't get it.
Pretty much everyone who has gotten it likes it, and those who didn't get it feel better that they saved 2k. Really nothing more than a personal choice.

I don't have Nav (not available in Canada) and don't miss it. Depending on your particular driving patterns, it could be anything from absolutely indispensable to a seldom-used toy. Most people who have it say they really like it, it sounds like it's one of the best nav systems available. If you have to ask if it's worth it, then it's probably more toy than tool for you. But hey, it's your money, spend it how you want. I doubt that having nav will affect your actual resale value all that much in a few years, but it should make it more saleable.

Personally, I don't have a need for navigation. Whenever I make a trip I usually know the roads or plan out the trip before I drive.
I am basically a walking road map and atlas.

For all you nav people, does the nav make it harder to operate the radio and climate control by requiring more than one button to be pushed to accomplish a task, which would prevent the driver from fully concentrating on actual driving? In other words, is it dangerous?

IMHO, I'd say save the $2000 and buy a Garmin/aftermarket GPS/Navi. You can get one for half the price with more features and they're more flexible, especially with Multi Media Cards.
But they are DEFINITELY not as cool looking as the in dash ones, especially at night.

What features does the Garmin have than the Acura/Alpine system doesn't have? The Garmin is much slower, doens't have as nice a display, and doesn't respond to voice commands.

I originally put money down on a non-nav. I switched to the nav and love it! I feel it is worth it. Youll literally never get lost again, and it looks great! It is a bit confusing to use at first. Im so happy w\ it.

I'm not saying that it's way better or anything, just a bit more flexible (especially since it's removeable). Not saying I know everything, it's just an opinion.

i got the magellan roadmate 700 a couple of months ago and this thing is my comprimise for not having nav. the 700 has a 10gb hard drive in it that store just enough info, if not more than the dual layer dvd's in the ac's. the big advantage for me is transporting it to all three of our cars, without getting nav in each one of them. the 700 has a trip computer, voice prompts, touch-screen, etc. the only thing lacking is the voice commands, but for usability in all three of our cars and a price of 1300 compare to 2000 usd, i'd say that's a comprimise that was easy to take.
