My stomach is upset making this decision..
So, for my 18th b-day and graduation present, I might be getting a 350z. Yes, I have already posted about this, but this is a very specific concern. Umm.. yea.. I'm having a hard time grasping the concept that the 350z will be my car until I am at least 23-24 years old. Specifically, the comfort of the car and the fact that it is a two-seater. I have said many times that a two-seater won't bother me, but I need help honestly figuring out times when it will.
I am going to college in.. what... 6 months or so. Though, yea, I won't be able to drive people around, I know there are always people other than me who can provide transportation if it's necessary to lug more than 2 people. But I need to brainstorm those situations where there is absolutely no alternative, and where having a 2-seater will really suck. Things like if I went to a bar with 4 friends, and i drove one friend and another drove the other two, and then the other driver had to leave on an emergency. I wouldn't be able to take them back. That kinda stuff.
By no means am I saying I am backing out of the idea of a 350z, I just feel like I should almost force myself to find every single problem in getting the car.

My friend bought a vaccuum cleaner and tried to take it home in his 350Z. He had to take it out of the box to fit it in the trunk. Not exactly a practical college car. If you want a 2 door car what about the RSX? Still sporty, yet you can take 4 people in a pinch.

Hmm.. yes but I know I will have other cars to help me out. I know its not exactly practical, but it's my dream car. I know that if I settle with any car, I will always be wondering what the z would have been like. Thats what happened with my tsx.

actually having a 2 seater in college is a good thing as it is just enough space to carry your own things. when i was in undergrad i was the only one with a 4 door, and i ended up driving everyone everywhere everytime. How fun was that? in all honesty i think that should be the last of your worries, just go for the Z if you want something more exciting and less practical.

I know your stomach is upset, but what is your dilemma?
Are you trying to decide between keeping your TSX and getting a new 350Z? If this is the case, congradulation and get your dream car.
I don't know, but the suggestion of picking up the 4-door coupe is pretty good also.

My dilemma is that I need to be 150% sure that this car won't frustrate the hell out of me in 2 years. I keep thinking of ways around bad situations with 2-seaters, but I want other people's input. I know, the rsx type-s is interesting too, I am considering it. The thing is, I went in a test drive, I had the dealer drive me (I'm still not comfortable test driving a stick with my lack of experience - I'm new to stick). My dad was in the back of the car. Now, I don't think the guy really pushed it as much as he could have, but many times he seemed like he was pushing it, and it just didn't seem very fast at all. Now, I drove in the z too, and that thing blew my socks off. So.. yea.

So basically, I am concluding from both my thoughts and all of your input that, yes there will be times where I wish I had a bit more storage space, but the fact that the car is a 2-seater will not be much of a disadvantage in college, and could actually be somewhat an advantage (not having to drive everyone)....
Anymore thoughts?

So you have a TSX now?
In that case I would say stick with the TSX and wait until you're out of college.
My reasoning:
I went through this same problem (except the choice was between keeping my 94 Integra or getting something new). I'm on scholarship, so my parents agreed to get me a car. I really wanted an STi, but was a loyal Honda owner and fan. I spoke with many people before leaving for college who told me to stick it out with my car for 4 years, and get something once I graduate. In all honesty, I am very happy with my decision. First of all, my car has been beaten to sh#t being outside all the time around drunk college kids. Also, if I don't want to drive my friends somewhere, I just throw them the keys (something that has really worn on my car, but I dont really care because its 12 years old). I see kids with nice cars all over the place that have dents and fender benders because it's at college, and a lot more stuff happens then just driving around your home town.
Stick it out with your current car for 4 more years, and get the Z when you graduate. By that time it should have a nice facelift and will much better suit your needs. Also, bringing stuff to and from school in a two door, 4 seater sucks. I can't imagine what it would be like in a two seater.

You should have posted this over in Ramblings. The responses would have been much more colorful, and I guarantee your "problem" would have been solved.
I also wonder why you had to open another 350 thread.

Dude, just get the 350Z already. You're young and why would you want to drive your friends around. That passenger seat should be your girl and that's that. I wouldn't want to be the designated driver all the time. Having a 2 seater will eliminate those nights when they want you to drive.

why would you want to be that dick who bought a car so they couldn't drive once in a while. And I tihnk the Z is impractical for someone going to college. You have plenty of time to get a sports car, at your age you should tell your parents to buy you a Scion or a Civic. 4 doors, not a grandpa car, inexpensive. Then when you graduate and start working, fill yourself with the gratitude of purchasing your own first brand new car of whatever you please...

Get the Z, its the car you really want. Go the the dealer and test drive the AT version. The power will blow you away and then you'll know the MT is even faster than that. If in 2 years you decide its not for you then trade it for a TSX.

If it was me i'd wait to get the Z. Because you know once you drive a brand spanking new car to school most likely there will be other people that will get jelous of your car and your car could get vandalized. I had a friend who got a Vette for his graduation present and took it to school which he shouldn't have. It got vandalized so bad that whoever did it took a piss in his vette smashed his windows, slash his tires, the list goes on. But if you do decide to get the Z i would not drive it to school. Are you keeping the TSX or trade in? If you have some extra cash lying around buy a second hand car and use that as a college car you can always drive the Z when you come back home because you'll know it will still be there in perfect condition. Unless your school is close to your house then that's another story.

There were a crazy amount of vandalized cars at my school. One SUV had all its rims stolen and was propped up on cinder blocks. Imagine coming back to your detroyed dream car after class. I'd wait to get the car till after college, man. It'll break your heart to see it damaged.

If you want the Z get it... It's that simple. Screw what others think...
But on a side note... If your dream car is a 350z then you have really low standards... Granted it's a nice car(I was considering one before my TSX) They are still just a low to mid-range sport compact. Nowhere near the likes of even a M3/M5... and if you want a 2-seater... Used NSX's go for about the price of the 350z... I'd rock a 95 NSX long before a 05/06 350z!
Sh*t if my parents were willing to fork over that kinda cash I would get a Phat down payment on a more expensive Sports Car bust my ass at work and school for a bit and make payments on the balance...

Oohhh, a 350z would be great. I could see getting into a lot of trouble in that car. If you're worried about missing the back seat though why not get the G35 coupe? I think it looks just as good (maybe better), has a better interior, and has the same engine. I think the invoice pricing is within $1k.
The back seat head room is terrible, but you won't be using it much anyway. It would be there if you need it. Just my
And what a problem to have at age 18, congrats. My parents bought me a 91 civic hatchback, not quite as sexy.

I'll take into consideration the vandalization point. Oh, and the thing about it being my dream car. I meant dream car that I can actually have. Of course I would rather an m3 or a porsche or the saleen s7.
