Thumbs up My navi said avg 45.1 mpg!!!!!

I know that it was not an actual number, but it's nice to see a high number. I was able to keep avg mpg at 40+ for about 20 miles (from the gas station to my house) before it went down to 38.6mpg when I parked my car. I love my car .

But 360 miles out of 12.6 gallons was good enough. 360 / 12.6 = 28.57, but my trip computer said 29.6mpg. Close enough!! :P

No, it's not. Hard to believe, but these numbers are true -- if only for relatively short stretches.

One thing I've learned from this Trip Computer is that mpg efficiency varies HUGELY according to the driving conditions -- much, much more than I ever imagined. It varies A LOT, especially at the extremes.

What kind of numbers would you think you get when you're just sort of coasting, on a slight downgrade on the freeway? I would've thought it was like 35 or 40 or something like that. Well, it's more like 50 to 60. And, how about on even just a slight upgrade? It's no better than 10 to 15, unless you really baby it.

You really shouldn't doubt Jumpper's numbers in the least. And if you really want to see some eye-popping numbers, just do this: When you get to the top of a mountain or long hill, hit "Reset" on the Trip Computer so that it starts from scratch. It'll probably show 99.9 for a while, then level off at maybe 80. And those are REAL numbers. But of course you'll never sustain that efficiency, unless you keep carrying the car back to the top of the hill.

the GPS measurement might actually be more accurate than the mechanical measurement.
