My Acura after a tornado: need help on how to accept delivery after repairs

I will post some pictures in a bit, but my car has been in the shop for several weeks getting many things replaced.

My main question is based on the paint job. It is black exterior, and I just want to know what to look for when I take delivery on Friday. I saw the car today, which apparently had to be buffed and then rebuffed after coming out somewhat hazy, and even today, in the sunlight, the car didn't look that spectacular, albeit, it needed a washing. I think I noticed some very faint swirling in the paint and wondering if that should exist or not. thanks

I'm told black is the easiest of all paint colors to match. They just have to get the body work under it spot on. I'd wait for final results before you get stressed. Paint always looks like crap until the final sand and buff.

there is no matching, the entire car had to be repainted, with the exception of 1 door , which was matched. It has been sanded, painted, and buffed twice.

I am just wondering what to look for, paint job, amongst other things. Thanks

They decided not to paint the one door? I'd say paint the entire car at this point

yeah that seems weird to me they didnt just paint that one door too cause then they wouldnt have to match to anything which would make there like easier.

yeh, don't ask me...

there were swirls in the one rear pillar I looked at, not to mention the rest of the car, which I didn't really have time to...

Driving from campus to my place, the tornado sirens go off…I flip the radio on and get a tornado warning for a town 8 miles south of where I am at, figure no worries. All of a sudden, I realize the clouds looks fucking low and swirly…all of a sudden, the power in the grid goes out and it starts to get windy as shit and all of a sudden my car is getting fuckin pounded by all sorts of debris

My driver’s side windows explode and at this point, I am starting to be fucking terrified…I ducked down in my front seat and put my bag over my head. At this point, the wind is howling and shit is destroying my car. A big tree fucking fell down a few meters in front of my car…as the wind lulled for a bit, I sped away and parked my car behind a Burger King and hid some more…some people inside saw me and let me in, where I waited it out…

From inside, we watched the power transformers explode…

In all seriousness, I have never been so scared and luckily, I am not cut up too badly considering a window exploded in my face…I’m ok, but my poor, poor car

just make sure there are no drips or little marks from dust getting on the clearcoat
and look at your car under flourecent lights at different angles to check for waviness thats all i can think of.....

good call...where would I get a flourescant light, though?

also, should I expect that any paint job I get from a professional to have the car ending up looking new?

You should expect for your insurance company to get your car back to the exact condition prior to what happened. So if its not to your satisfaction, complain.

Swirls on a brand new paint job are not acceptable...

Ditto, once they do a final polish with abrassive compound the finish should look like new. And kiss going to the machine car wash good bye forever too, hand wash and touchless wash are it for a repainted car, period.

only use touchless anyways, and only by myself... I think that they have done the final run-through with the abrasive compound...I will withhold judgement until friday when i get it back, but I am certain i saw swirls

only at $9,800 damage as of today...my insurance requires 70% of new car value before being totalled...

best place in town...(not saying much as it is champaign, illinois) acura did recommend them, as there isn't an acura dealer for 150 miles or so...

if i don't like it, i'll just get insurance to take care of it back in Chicago

oh yeah, check for drips and even dots of excess paints in some places (kinda like small bubbles sometimes left over from window tinting if not done properly. Make sure its blended nicely with the door as well. feel for any roughness. My parents X5 was painted black too after a accident and i forgot to check for this stuff

If you come to Chi-town for work I've seen a Benz cert. repair shop in Naperville, on Ogden Ave. I have to imagine they do good work.

But hopefully your car will look mint when you get it back.

I'd like to see some pics of what the car looked like post-damage / pre-bodyshop. What did the tornado do to it?

Holy shit man... I just caught your deal about being in champaign.

I heard a lot of people were running the hell away from champaign to urbana during the storm.

so just a heads up, I will hopefully be finally getting my car back tomorrow or tuesday (full month without it)

the auto shop here had trouble removing the broken windows and in doing so, damaged all the window switches. thankfully, they shipped my car to an actual Acura dealership back in Chicago to finish all of the repairs...

this is killing me

Is it just me, or are your Acura and TSX emblems sitting too low? On my 06, it's quite a bit higher....

the repaint turned out fine, but from what I have been reading, it won't be a good idea to shave the badges off and move them up with such a fresh paint job...

Maybe rip them off and consider it debadging ;-) jk. I happen to like the emblems (that is, if they're in the correct position...your low emblems look so wierd, it just sticks out to me)

I think they probably stuck it so low because they wanted to use the edge as a guide. I hear it's hard lining the emblems up if you're rebadging the car
